Hey guys I'm selling the cav and was looking to buy a truck. I was wanting a Silverado but I went last nite to look at some trucks and noticed an 06 NIssan Titan. It has 2,000+ miles and is $14,000. But heres the catch it has a salvage title. So I have a couple questions;
1. What do you think of the Titan?
2. What are some the problems with salvage title cars?
3. Any special questions I should ask about salvage title cars?
4. Is there a place where I can check the history of the car?
5. What about insurance cost and the value of the car?
Thanks in advance for all your help
1. They're nice looking trucks
2. Depends on what got them the salvage title. Some are wrecked and incurance companies just total them out if the repairs to fix the damage are more than the bluebook value. Some are flood vehicles and are only good for body parts since anything electrical is junk.
4. Carfax www.carfax.com
5. Value of the car is depends on what made it salvagable in the first place. For instance I worked with a guy that bought a flood slavaged '96 Mercury Cougar for a few hundred $ and replaced everything electrical in it, It ran fine and looked nice and didn't have any rust except on the underbody but he told me one time he wouldn't be able to sell it for more than a grand if at that due to the flood damage salvage title. He only had liability insurace on it since it wasnt' worth much as well.
Titans are nice trucks. I'd personally go with a 5.3 z71 though
You can check carfax for a history report
Sometimes it's hard to get a loan for a salvage title vehicle
Most dealerships won't touch a salvage title car for trade in, if they do they'll take it to an auction
A vehicle with a salvage title is worth quite a bit less and is harder to sell than a vehicle with a clear/good title
Thanks guys. Well I'm not gonna get a loan. I have the cash to buy it right out. I asked the guy what happened and he said it was hit on the passenger side. I haven't had the chance to test drive it hopefully today I'll get the chance.
I originally wanted a truck cuz i knew they lasted longer and I plan on having it for quite some time. This is a pretty big investment and I just wanna make sure I have all the facts. So I'm gonna have to check out car fax. Does it cost anything? I'm also waitng for a call back from our insurance agent to see about the cost of insurance and all that jazz
I really wanted a silverado but when I seen this thing I just loved it.
Before you buy it have it checked out for frame damage by a reputable auto body specialist.
Id never consider a salvaged car unless it was for the track only.
Good luck.
Well I just found out that the truck needed to pass a level III inspection through the MVD. So that's something I need to ask about. Need to make sure it passed that inspection. I may just need to start looking for a Titan with a clean Title or go back to looking for a silverado.
Thanks guys
What do you plan on doing with the truck? Towing, consistantly using the bed of the truck or just daily driving?
dan
Daily driving. I don't need it for any heavy duty work just to drive me around and make me look good while doing it.
welcome to crappy mileage , i think the nissan was at the bottom of the group for mileage
id stay away from salvaged vehicles

I know I just seen that. It gets 14 city /18 highway. The silverado at least gets 16/23.
I'm still researching info on the Titan so any info you have on it please share.
salvage vehicles are alright. but i would ask for some pics of the truck when damaged, go to a certified body shop check the frame and ask them or yourself to feel inside of the fenders of the truck box and see if its mech. sound. you should be able to bring him down quite a bit on the cost.
maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day
justin(snowman) bough a new 1 and he liked the truck , they arent to bad , just poor milage
if i remember he didnt pay alot for it either and it was new , and alot cheaper than any other truck to purchase
also if your wanting a full size stay away from the smaller motors , they usually get worse mileage than the bigger motors

Why not go with a Frontier? Im looking at the nissan website right now. For the King Cab:
Fuel Economy XE SE NISMO LE
Manual Transmission (city/highway)
4x2 22/25 17/21 - -
4x4 - 17/21 17/21 -
Automatic Transmission (city/highway)
4x2 19/24 16/21 16/21 16/21
4x4 - 15/20 15/20 15/20
and for the Crew Cab:
Fuel Economy SE NISMO LE
Manual Transmission (city/highway)
4x2 17/21 - -
4x4 17/21 17/21 -
Automatic Transmission (city/highway)
4x2 16/21 16/21 16/21
4x4 16/21 16/21 16/21
And, for the Pathfinder (which still gives you the towing and the seating)
Fuel Economy S SE SE LE
4x2 (city/hwy) 16/23 16/23 N/A 16/23
4x4 (city/hwy) 15/21 15/21 15/21 15/21
Sorry about everything not lining up correctly, but I'm sure you will figure out where everything is suposed to go pretty quick.

Dan: thanks for the info. I think I was able to figure it out. I'm gonna have to check out the Frontier, I never really looked in to them. Those Pathfinders are pretty nice too. Oh man there are so many options!
Ok now here's another question about Nissan. What about the longevity of Nissan cars/trucks? Do they last a long time? Are they Reliable?

as reliable as the next out there , there is always good and bad , doesnt matter import or domestic
anything will last treated right

I agree, especially a $14,000 salvaged title car. The Titan is a nice truck, and it does have low miles and everything, but I wouldn't do it.
Thanks guys. The more I think about it the less I wanna buy it. I think I may just look for one with a clean title or one of the others dan suggested. I'd rather be safe than sorry especialy when involves $14,000 of my own money
my first cavi was salvages vehicle. Best car i ever bought. I drove the crap out of it too. i have a 2003 "GM Certified" cavi now. I have had nothing but problems. We know the guy who rebuilds the salvaged vehicles. he does really good work. so i guess it depends on the person rebuilding them.

The real god honest truth is. As alvaged title car or truck is worthless. go to Kelly Blue book or the NADA websites. a Savlaved vehicle holds no value so ANY asking price is too much. That's a fact.
This is from kelly blue books description on their website. The next step up is "fair" condtition and does not mention "salvaged title" at all in the description. Becuase salvaged titled cars automatically are poor condition no matter what.
Quote:
"Poor" condition means that the vehicle has severe mechanical and/or cosmetic defects and is in poor running condition. The vehicle may have problems that cannot be readily fixed such as a damaged frame or a rusted-through body. A vehicle with a branded title (salvage, flood, etc.) or unsubstantiated mileage is considered "poor." A vehicle in poor condition may require an independent appraisal to determine its value. Kelley Blue Book does not attempt to report a value on a "poor" vehicle because the value of cars in this category are worthless.
so just steer away from it. unless you plan to keep it forever.

Nissan trucks *are* the bottom, when it comes to fuel economy. I test drove a Titan today, and even got to take it off-road (there is an Infiniti dealer under construction next to the Nissan dealer, and I got to tear through it). Overall its a decent truck, handling is on par, and ride comfort is definitely way up there. I just can't get over the fact that I'd be spending a lot of money at the pump. I think Nissan knows this and they throw good incentives out, but if you're looking for a daily driver, take fuel economy into consideration. Do the math, if it would be worth it getting a few less MPG. For me, I don't think it would make a huge difference, but you have to calculate the numbers for yourself.

the former." - Albert Einstein
For it to be an 06 and have a salvage title it had to have been in a pretty bad accident. I love driving the Titans....very nice all around truck. I worked for a Nissan dealer for a little over a year and it wasnt very often we had a Titan in for anything serious or out of the ordinary.

id get a frontier or a tacoma if you really have to have a truck for no reason
Thanks a lot guys. I decided not to go with the Titan after all. I started looking at the frontiers and the colorados. So far I'm really liking the colrados. I'm still keepin my eye out for a silverado tho. But I really appreciate all of your help!
