hey all. next wednesday i'm picking up a '93 daytona for my old lady. it has the 2.5 n/a with the 3 speed auto. i know a lot about the 2.2/2.5 turbo motors but almost nothing about the n/a. does anybody know off hand what the 0-60 times are on these cars? what about 1/4 mile times? i told her it's not gonna be a speed demon like my turboz and base horsepower is only rated at 100 hp and torque around 130-135. and does anybody know the stock weight off hand? i know my 86 weighed around 2900 (ouch) when i first got it and it now weighs around 2700-2750. thanks for the help in advance.

Thank god you didn't get the 3.0l V6 with the 4speed. We had a '93 Daytona Iroc and nothing but trouble once the tranny started to go. I did a quick search on google and found
this and
this as well as
this. Good luck.

Dodge transmission are very straight forward to rebuild. Do you still have it?

I hated my '93 3.0 too.
Stock 1/4 mile times will be in the 17's for a 2.5 3 speed....possibly even 18's.
Be carfeull of the headgasket.
Yes the head gaskets are a weak link. Also watch the oil pan and valve cover gaskets because they like to leak. I had an 89 Daytona for awhile. Blew the motor up because I wasn't careful about the head gasket. put new motor in and she's still going strong.

We gave up on it. We came to the conclusion that the first tranny went bad, the second one was possibly fine and so was the third one but something was wrong with the wiring or there was some other problem that was causing them to stay in limp mode. After messing around with it and trying to locate the problem we just gave up and sold it.

thats what i was thinking high 17's. i have a lotta go fast goodies that would bolt onto it but like i said its for the old lady. i have a 5speed tranny laying around too. very easy swap. so easy its pitiful. plus i have a set of new american racing estrella 15 inch wrapped in new cooper cobra 50 series white letter rubber. i know i could get it into 14's all motor no problem but like i said the car's not for me lol. i had a dodge shadow w/ the same motor 3 speed auto and i got a 17.4 stock out of it, but then again a shadow is much much lighter than a daytona lol

I had a 93 IROC Daytona, 3.0 V6, 4 speed automatic. i LOVED that car. Incredibly reliable. the a604 automatic tranny has a bad rap, mine was a factory rebuild with a TransGo Shift kit, oil cooler and synthetic and i never had a problem with it.
After spending thousands on my cavalier, is old it for the IROC Daytona and was totally in love.
Stock with the shift kit the car went 15.9's at our local track. I was quite happy with this and the interior has to be one of the nicest i have seen on most any car, even to date.
Your 2.5L auto is not going to be much of a performer tho. Unfortunatly it will be in the high 18's.
Check out www.allpar.com/forums for any more info. There is a good Daytona forum there.
Too bad they Axed these cars, and whats worse is there is surprisingly enough a very little following for them.
My dad had a '86 600 with a 2.5, at 140,000mi head gasket went and a rod went thru the block. That little motor had some get up and go though.
Love early 90's Daytona's w/o the popup headlights although there is hardly any of them around here anymore.
well a little update. the car runs awesome no problems w/ it except for the right axle which was shot so i installed a new one. although turns out she totally hates the lack of power and wants me to do a turbo swap and i said no way. so i bored out a stock throttle body and fitted a turbo throttle plate into it and i advanced the cam timing 14 degrees and spark timing 15 degrees plus a full 2 1/4 inch exhaust w/ hi-flo cat and glasspack. woke the car up a little but not too much. told her there ain't much more i can do to it except for a mild cam and a port/polish/shave. but the car runs awesome and it looks really good. gas mileage isn't too shabby either

yeah, you wont get high 14's out of a TBI 2.5.
My first car was a 90 2.5 TBI 5 speed daytona. With an open element, 2.25 exhaust and a Mopar cam it ran mid- high 17's.
I think a few guys built up their 2.5 TBI's in their omni's over on turbo-dodge.com vand i think they got into the mid 16's high 15's fully gutted, fully built N/A.
If you wanna go fast you might wanna look at a turbo swap (including the whole engine) from a turbo dodge, or get wacky and put the 3.0 in there. Alot of the turbo-dodge guys wont agree with you, but i liked the 3.0 V6 alot more than the 2.2 Turbo i had in my 88 shelby z.
Infact my 3.0V6 auto daytona ran as fast in the 1/4 mile as my 88 shelby Z TII with the a555 5 speed. In the long run the turbo 2.2 can be made a lot faster than the 3.0 V6... but for an everyday driver the V6 was smooth and torquey.
Have any pics of either of your Daytona's?
well i won't do a turbo-swap because i've been through it once and i won't do it again. i never really got too involved w/ the 3 liter so i don't know too much about it. my father has a 2.2 16 valve turbo mototr complete sitting in the garage out of his spirit r/t and he won't part with it no how. i'd kill to drop that into the 'tona. although not too interested in going fast, just a little more pep. it's pretty damn bad when you get passed by an escort gt going up hill lol. i know my brother has a complete nitrous kit laying around for his shadow that would work on the daytona. i don't think the bottom end would take more than a 75 shot though
and as for pix i don't have any of the new one yet because we just got the car like 2 1/2 weeks ago give or take and the turbo z i did have a cardomain page for it but they kinda deleted it on me. wish i knew why. i do have pix at my mothers house for it since thats where i was living at the time and i could gladly get them and post them on here or send them to you via e-mail. i have pix of a rusty 4door cavy though lol. it's a real piece

i had a 91 Iroc with the 3L and auto too, man that car was a @!#$in peice of @!#$.. im glad i got rid of it, i mean it broke down literally every other week, ate alts, ate sensors in the tranny, power doors locks would go nuts all the time and keep trying to lock.. thats just afew, i had the motor rebuilt and the @!#$in thing started to tick 3 weeks later. only plus side to that car was it was very nice looking a really rare around here.. too bad some faggots bought it and ruined it by stripping her down...

^^ thats crazy. I had no luck with my turbo-dodges (Turbo daytona + turbo shadow) but my 93 Iroc was bullet proof.
In 4 years all i did was oil changes, tune ups, serpentine belt and tensioner and an IAC senser. And i think i drove that car pretty hard.
