ok so as soon as the 240 sells, im lookin into late model s10s with the 4.3 v6. hows the reliability and gas on these motors? will be getting a 5 speed unless i get a good deal on an auto. id like to get an xtreme but their on the spendy site.
it will be used as a daily driver from point a to b. i want the 4.3 for the extra power and torque if im moving stuff.
well lets here it. good, bad, everything inbetween

I'm interested also. Been kinda thinking about it myself. I dont know. I think if I get a truck i'm going to look into a silverado. I'm affraid if I end up with an S10 I know i'll do a SBC swap. For sure if its a manual extreme.
Dont settle for the 2.2. My friend had it in his Extreme. He hated it. He came for a 2.2ohv cav to an extreme 2.2. Did nothing but complain about that thing.
as long as you take care of it the 4.3 is one of the single most durable motors ever built. Its low on power but has lots of torque. The only problem i can think of is the tranny may be the weak link, ive seen alot of v6 S10/Blazers with a bad tranny.
<~~~~PWN3D!!
They're very dependable trucks. The 4.3 is practically bullet proof, but I'm sure at some point you'll have to change the intake gasket, cause 4.3's are notorious for intake manifold leaks. The gas mileage isn't so great, about as much as a fullsize. If you plan on towing or hauling anything I'd go with a 99+ fullsize, because they are about the same $$ as the s10's.
i have an 01 xtreme that orig had a 4.3 in it. gas was 20 combined city/highway. now it has a mildy built vortec sseries 5.7 in it
I'd go even newer to a Colorado. Much better vehicle all around.
I'm going to totally agree with Robtco99. My dad has an 02 four door S10, which is pretty much a blazer with the cargo area open like a pickup truck. I think he's got around 90,000 miles on it now. I don't think he's had to work on the engine or trans ever. I think around 2000 just like the 2.4 they improved the 4.3. He went from a 99 silverado to this think he was going to get better gas mileage and I think he gets worse in this since you have to floor it to move it with all the torque it has. If you can find a full size instead id prob look into getting that also.

the 4.3 is basiclly a SBC minus 2 cylinders...
