Firebird/Trans Am Forums?

What are some good forums for a 1993 to 1996 T/A?

I am looking to maybe buy a 1996 T/A, but it is not an LS1 so the LSX forums will do me no good.

What other motors came in the 1996 T/A's bescides the LT1 and V6? Also What is so special about the Formula version?

Thanks

There was only 2 engines offered in that generation, in 1996 there was the 3800 V6 and the LT1 and beyond that the 96 I believe was the first year to offer the WS6 Ram air package again which gm claimed was good for 285hp, and of course the Firehawk which at that time was 315hp

The formula and the trans am could both be fitted with the WS6 Ram Air package, the formula is basically a non trans am with the v8 and are just as quick

If I recall correctly there was also a 3.1 V6 that was offered in that year range.

And, I don't recall the WS6 package ever being offered on an LT1 equipped car. I could be wrong though, my knowledge of the early 4th gens isn't the best. 3rd gens on the other hand.. I know a thing or two.

Anyways, it's kind of a new site, but if you click on my sig picture it will take you there. There are plenty of members there with knowledge of the LT1 engines, could probably help you alot. Let me know if you end up going there.

Firebird had the plain looking body with the V6, Trans am had the nicer looking body (the fogs, the different bumper, bigger rear wing, ect..) and came with the V8, the Fomula is the V6 firebid body with the V8 engine. WS6 ram air package was available on any V8 engined car and the Firehawk package form SLP is the the king of the hill, which was also available on any 8 cylinder

by the way I've always heard the formulas are faster then the T/A just because of very slight weight savings

www.ls1tech.com for research they have plenty of lt1 info

96 was the first year for the ws6 package on the 4th gens. A formula with the ws6 package is very rare. It will have the ram air hood and 17 inch painted ws6 wheels(96 only) a WS6 rpo code will appear on the list of codes on the door if it is a true ws6.

The only difference between a formula and a trans am is the smaller spoiler on the hatch of the formula vs the tall spoiler on the trans am and their is no gfx on a formula(different bumper covers) as their is gfx on a trans am. The only difference between a regular firebird 3.8 and an formula 5.7 is the driveline, tail lights, 4wheel disc, and emblems.

I actually have a 96 formula convertible. To be perfectly honest I'd save up more money and get an ls1. I've seen many ls1's around 6-10k, they make more hp, are easier to work on, are more reliable, get better mpg, etc. I would never consider buying an lt1 car unless it was dirt cheap.....

What's wrong with it for that price?

Wow, $1000? Something would have to be wrong unless they just wanted to get rid of it quick..

I want to see some pics when you can.

it's $1000 because the chick is spoiled and she just wants to get rid of it. I offered her $1000 and she said ok. It has a craked spoiler and a dent in the front quarter panel. It has the Corvette grand sport rims, a loud exhaust and tint.

If I recall correctly there was also a 3.1 V6 that was offered in that year range.

The 3.1 was never an option in the 4th gen 93+ the 3.4 (160hp) was offered till 96 when it was replaced with the 3800 (200) thank goodness, the 3.4 was an embarrassment to the car, well pretty much any V6 in an F-bod is with the exception of the 1989 Turbo Trans AM with the 3.8 Grand National Motor in it.

The WS6 ram air was on the LT1s

WS6 - as an option code has been on the firebirds for many years just what it included changed over the years

My Favorite F-Bods
1. 1982-1984 Trans Am - just because this was the knight rider era, not so great on power but the body was oh so sexy
2. 98+ LS1 - The pinnacle of F-body power
3. ANy of the Firehawks
4. The 1987-92 GTA Trans Ams - just the gold trim and everything always loved them
5. 77-81 Smokey and the bandit era , hood scoops and fire breathing chickens whats not to love
6. The early 70s SD455 Trans Ams big block power
