Used 2001 + civic coupe

How is the aftermarket? I don't see too many of them around with much more than the usually body kit, rims and asscan. It seems like this civic lost the crowd that likes to push the power to the limits with this engine (1.7 SOHC right?).

What are your thoughts?

Swap a K20 into a coupe or sedan and you're set. I believe the ugly shoe shaped Si came with the K20.

Yes but it was the ugly K20 (160hp and slow) not the K202a (200hp ) variant.
If you want real power there are many SOHC turbo options. That is going to be the cheapest and most reliable power. not counting an H22 or K20 swap, that will cost quite a bit. (over 5 grand for a K20)

Ahhh, so there are turbo kits from reputable companies for the 1.7? I want to stay away from a swap.

The 02-05 Si with the K20a3 runs about 15.8 which is around what most Ecotec 5 Speed LS Sports run. K20a2 is 197 HP but the most exciting part is the 6 speed. And if you can find a k20a ( 220 HP and 6 speed <3 )

Check Edelbrock, Rev Hard, Greddy ... they should make kits for the 1.7.

Thanks, Jersey Kid

I snooped around hondatech.com and found the D17 is somewhat of the underdog...supporting a maximum of 250-300hp turboed with stock bottom end.

Can you recommend the best honda engine series for boost? More specifically, which is the best compromise of reliability and maximum power? I see a lot of integra LS turbos putting down really good numbers.

Personally , LS's are strong motors but they dont have VTEC, and VTEC while boosting is such a good pull.
I would suggest an B18B1 ( LS ) or B18C1 ( GSR ) like i have . You can put around 285 to the wheels with like 10 psi.

GSR may be a bit harder to find ... And when you go to find a trans remember this .

B16 Trans = Noooooo for boost ... its VERY small gearing is awesome for NA but will cause a tire roast for boost.
LS Trans = Very long gears ... Decent for boost.
GSR Trans = Is in between the B16 and LS , the RPMs are kinda high in 5th while cruising but 3-4 it makes the car move quickly.
Type R Trans = If you have a chance to get one , GET ONE.
