Well, 2 nights ago I decided to make the trip up here to western maryland to visit my parents, about a 2 and a half hour drive. On the way up here i saw what I thought was a piece of tire retread in the road, had a car to my right, really no choice but to run over it. I still don't know if it was retread or if it was something else but the impact of hitting the piece of debris was enough to bend my rear drivers side wheel, put a dent in my quarter panel, throw my alignment off pretty good, and the kicker: set off my side impact and side curtain airbags. When those went off it felt like someone punched me in the side of my head. So I pulled over on the side of the road, changed the tire( luckily I had a full size spare.), used my knife to cut down the air bags and drive it the rest of the way here. I took it today and had the estimate done, and it going to be about 2600$. The insurance company is covering most of it, but what kills me is they are using my collision deductible because I hit a "stationary" object. On the plus side one of my wheels had some curbage which was the one it bent. That quarter panel also already had some damage which I now get fixed for free. Just kinda crazy something so small could do soemthing like set off the air bags. Oh well, at least I know they work!
Pics to come of the damage, and then hopefully one when it gets out of the shop with the new suspension, wheels, and grille.

you hit a piece of debris and your side curtains went off? that's crazy
I work on Wall Street, but didn't force you to take out a loan you couldn't afford.
Yea the guy at the body shop just kept saying how he couldn't believe it. Because he's seen cars roll multiple times and the bags not go off. It scared the living @!#$ out of me thats for sure
it doesn't suprise me that the air bags go off, they are preaty sensative from what I've seen on those
Have you contacted the city about it? I know they are responsible for the roads. Just like if you hit a big ass pot hole you can make them pay for it. You pay taxes for road work and maintenance etc.. to have a safe and serviceable road to drive on. Sounded like neither of those to me.
I could be wrong but sounds like its worth looking into to me. I know my dad hit a big ass pot hole on his motor cycle. Bent his rim pretty good and they had to pay for it. Not sure how something in the road would work but like I said...it sure cant hurt to try.
On another note, sorry about the bad luck and atleast you're ok.
