SERIOUS PROBLEM, ODOMETER FRAUD HELP
Wednesday, October 11, 2006 8:54 AM
Well I just bought a Sunbird and it was as is with 102 264km when i bought it. Now i checked the km today, i've stored it in my garage for a week now, and the km read 102 258km. The odometer has been going backward instead of forward, those 6 km i drove was the distance from the dealer to my house.

Im i screwed and just have to deal with the car becuase it is as is, or can i get my money back?

I am sooo pissed off right now, that im not pissed off. And a very loud screeching noise started happening last week, just as i parked it in my garage. F**k**m*t***f*r

You should be able to do something. the OD has been tampered with and that is illegal. Unfortunately I don't know who you would go to. Try your local Transportation authority first I guess.

For that matter, you could call the cops and tell them you suspect fraud. After all, it is criminal and they should know something about it.

Good luck

i just called the ministry of transportation, they said i cant do much since it was as is. If i take them to small claims court, they can say, i didnt know about that and play stupid. This is totally f*cking what i didnt need right now.

Is anyone willing to give me a carfax. its probably been assraped to death.

ya i talked to the dealer and hes playing stupid. He said he is going to ask the mechanic what would cause the odometer to roll back, didn't call me back since this morning. Like hes playing innocent, i know the fu*ker did it. Who else would do that. The original owner traded in his car, why would he go through the trouble of rolling back the km on a sunbird, he probably knew the car wasn't worth much to begin with.

that is a whole ton of bs
nothing you can do? @!#$ crock of @!#$
there is always SOMETHING you can do
pull up the vehicle history report on carfax, youll find out the mileage that the car had before it got to the dealer or when it got to the dealer
that should get you started

drive it through the front of the dealership and light it on fire, but take off plate and VIN tag first. then when they ask you about it, play it like you're innocent

*Starts taking off vin numbers* .

I called all the government places and they say its a risky case. All this guy has to do is say, i duno, i just sold it like i got it or say he doesn't know anything. The worse thing to happen would be to take this prick to court and then lose another 1000 on my case. Im starting to just try to put this behind me, i'll still look into trying to get this bastard some how if i can. A lot of the car is working, and it still looks pretty good. Its a good thing it wasnt more than 1000 bucks. I have a 50/50 chance of either getting my money back or the gudge ordering me to pay his court costs. Thats risky, i dont make that much coin gamble with those odds.

I was thinking of putting a add in all the newspapers saying how this dealership gave me a car with odometer fraud and not to buy any cars from him.

I sell cars for a living in Canada, and this is how I see your situation. You bought a car AS IS so it doesnt have to meet any saftey requirements, thats fine, but Im sure the dealership would of known about the odometer and if they didnt know its there job to find these things out. Then on you bill of sale it should of said T.K.U true kilometers unknown. Now if that is not on your bill of sale even though it was AS IS then demand you money back or a disount on the car. IF they say no then get the USED CAR ASSOCIATION invloved in your area. Odometer Fraud is serious. Its a dealerships job to look into the history of the cars they sell, with regards to liens, accidents, odometer. The buyer of used cars is very protected so dont back down from this DEARLERSHIP. If this happend at my dealership the customer would be offered a disount or there money back. Accidents do happen and maybe they just didnt know but now they have to come good for it.

Good luck

Dammit, i slipped, after all these years of keeping it quiet. Now im going to jail instead of the prick that sold me the car. lol

Im going to go get a used vehicle info package, and see what the millage was when ownership changed hands. I also have the add in the autotrader that indicates the millage at 106 911, 4000km more than it has now. How on earth does a car go 4000 km backwards. I think i got him right there. But get this, i drove the car yesturday, and the odometer is going forward again. WTF

If the UVIP idicates a huge differance in millage, im going to call him up and say, if he want to make a deal with me or if he wants to see me in court. If he gives me a deal fine, or else im going to have to sell the car or something.

REDZ, would you happen to know a number i can call or a website for that used vehicle association.

Fix it before you sell it or you are just as bad as the guy you bought it from.. Except the next owner may be more willing to fight. Some people will fight on principle even if it'll cost them in the end.

hahaha, ya, if i sold the car, i would just tell them straight up that the odometer is probably wrong. I wouldnt want someone to go through what i went through, it was probably the most pissed experience i ever had in my life.

the odo rolls backwards , and the closer to 0 it gets the better looking the car gets

Who cares? It's a 90 Sunbird. You probably didn't pay much for it and it doesn't matter what the odometer says since it's over 10 years old.

I just seen your from Toronto. Tell the dealership you are getting the UCDA involved and contacting OMVIC then see how he changes his mind and helps you out. Dealerships like this are all over TO and need to be punished.
