So a guy I work with has a 1969 Camaro. He's looking to sell it and i'm going to buy it. He paid 6500 for it and put a new rear end in it with .390 gears. Problem is he's an idiot and its a 2-speed power glide so it tops out at 90mph but hey it gets there fast as @!#$, lmao.
I'm wanting to know how much its worth. I know its not worth 6500 and he does also.
Here's whats wrong
Tops out at 90mph and tranny leaks bad
Rusted out floor pans
4-wheel drum
no interrior (he took it all out)
no paint its all primer
needs a new radiator he says (keeps over heating he's flushed it changed thermostat etc..
Good
400 SBC
New Holley 4 barrel carb
brand new rear end
new dual exhaust (sounds decent)
its a 69 camaro which is my dream car
engine has very low miles
its a 69 camaro
I want it
its a 69 camaro
400SBC =P
Here's a few pics.

Low ball the crap out of him.
$2000 and a case of beer.
He can counter your offer with his own, or a swift kick in the nuts.
JUMP ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
as Jinxed said lowball him, but GET IT NO MATTER WHAT!!!!
You better get that car!!! Tell him you will give him 5k and go from there.

5K?
Why?
Its cool that its a 69 Camaro and all ... but the price would have to depend entirely on the quality of the shell. And it looks like a shell.
Also figure in the cost of restoring it.
20K? 30?
I'd say don't watse your time, for some reason you feel the need to sell everything you buy shortly after getting it. Save your money and get a nice newer car with a warranty that you can live with more thn a couple monthes
5k? are u serious, go back to sleep.
not a dime over 2k, and in my opinion thats still high. it has no interior, its primered, and has rusty floors. think about it for a minute. fresh rebuilt sbc's are a dime a dozen, that alone doesnt make the car worth alot. and i can tell u from personal experience, because i owned 1 before, that a 69 that is fast is very scary with 4wheel drums. save ur money and look for a better starting point. u can find better for that kind of money easily.

I have something like that. Its an 06 Sentra. I still have my camaro. I only got rid of the last car I had (talon) because it was a complete POS...live and learn I guess. Then I saved for somthing nicer which is my camaro I have now. Which I didn't say anything about selling. I was at one point but only because I didn't have the money to ship it to Germany and now i'm not going so no biggie. Yes I have sold lots of cars and go through them but they are junk. Like the RX-7 sure I got it and sold it right away, but ummm.....I got it for free and sold it for 600 wow. Yea I had an 85 Corolla coupe but I put the engine in it and sold it for a profit. I had a neon for about 2 days but fixed the tranny and sold it. Catch my drift here? Every car i've picked up and sold was A either the original plan or B I made money off.
I was thinking around 2-2500 also. I know he wants more then that and he has a lot invested in it but thats not really my problem. Yes its a lot of work but thats fine I dont want one already done. Finding one cheaper and nicer is not an easy task. I have yet to find one around here for sale.
As far as a fast 69 with 4-wheel drum...thats not really a big deal. Brake swaps are actually pretty easy. There are a few 4th gen camaro's at the junk yard near me and for an entire rear end with rear disc they said 200 bucks. Not hard to swap out the entire rear end for one with discs. Solves the rear. As for the front its not that difficult to go with C4 corvette front discs. The price really isn't as expensive as it seems either. Been looking at doing it to my 3rd gen, but if I got this one my 3rd gen would stay stock pretty much and i'd just keep it running and do everything to the 69.
Another 69. I know you referring to the vents in the rear 1/4. Not everyone has them for 1 and for 2 the rear 1/4 has been replaced due to somebody backing into it. Hence why the car was primered in the first place. The kid who had it before the guy now started to restore it.
I love when people jump into threads and start being douche bags.
Look the guy who drives the grocery getter econobox is talking about muscle cars. How about you go somewhere and talk to somebody who cares.
Even if for some reason the car is a 68 instead of a 69, which I know for a fact it isn't because we've already run the numbers on it since I know the guy and I was there when he bought it so we checked it out before he bought it. Still doesn't give you the right to be a complete dick. So please go kill yourself now your a waste to the world.
EDIT: Yea since you want to be a dick let me re-phrase my question just so we dont have any further confusion.
I know the car is worth 3-6k since it is a classic, its not totaled, and its fairly rare. I've found a few in better and in worse shape. What do you think I should offer the guy?
first off the car is 100% 68 , just going by the body
the side marker lights are large and down lower on the body
in 69 they used skinner lights and higher up , you can see the 69's being higher up in that pic you posted , in reference to my post
next look at the tail lights , 67-68 use 2 lenses , and 6 use 1 that looked like 3
67-68 did not have the fender gills , 69 did and it didnt matter if the chrome gills were there or not , the indentions were still there
also the 67-68 didnt have the flared fenders , 69 has flared fenders , if you take the rear spoiler from a 67-68 and put it on a 69 , the spoiler will be roughly about 1-2 inches shorter on each side
i can go on for hours about differences between them
and for reference , a list of cars ive owned , 70 SS396 chevelle , 64 plymouth sport fury 383 , 77 camaro , 70 SS 350 camaro , 72 vega panel wagon , 68 impala wagon , current cars owned , 68 elcamino , 29 model a tudor sedan
and ive been a muscle car freak for about 30 years , and im 38 now
as i said i think the car is worth around 4k , and it is a 1968 camaro
there is a metal tag on the cowl/fire wall area , it bet it says its a 68 and not a 69
if you doubt my expertise , just say so , and ill start digging up more pics and reference material
the 2 links i posted above should be enough to clareify the difference in the body
quick edit , if that cowl palte shows 69 then i wouldnt invest anything into that car , cause it would have been pieced together
also , if you want get more pics of the car a little closer up and get some pics of the interior , and ill point out the 68 stuff

1969 wheel well
1969 tail lights
1968 tail lights, clear in center
1968 wheel well
That car wheel well
That car tail lights, clear in cent
The car is a 1968. The 1968 did not come with a 400 or a two speed standard, so I would say $4000 for the car.
68's look alot better imo.

Where are you guys picking up 1st gen camaros for around 2 grand?
You'd be lucky to get a shell with no suspension, no glass, and no interior for that much. I've seen straight up garbage ones that look like they have been in a river for 20 years fetch 5 grand. If you can find one that runs and drives and isn't completely rusted away for 6 grand jump on it. I'd try to low ball him with $4500.
A running 400sbc is worth almost a grand alone....
I said 5K cause the guys seems like he doesnt want anything less than what he spent for it $6,500. Since we all figured out its not a 69 5K maybe a bit much. 69 camaros in my book are killer and totally worth the cash. To each his own.

I'd buy it... I love 69's but the 68's looks good!
68's definitely look better

572. good luck on your buy and its a 1968
ive got my crow in hand waiting for him to proove its a 69 and not a 68
and im getting hungry , if i aint eating crow its gonna a think steak
lol
OOOUCH!!!! the ownage in this thread even hurts me. 97cavie made me laugh...i always argue with my brother about styling differences between 68's and 69's, you just added a few things to my arsenal...thanks.
