No Longer a Cav Owner :(
Sunday, August 27, 2006 12:03 AM
Well guys, the time has come that I thought would never arrive as I was sure that I would keep my Cavalier for quite a long time to come. As of 08/24/06, I was no longer the proud owner of my yellow 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier base coupe. I am now a proud owner of a Satin Silver 2006 Ford Mustang V6 premium coupe!! The purchase came out of no where really as I wasn't looking to get a new car anytime soon, but when I saw a commercial on television Thursday advertising 0% for 72 months on all 2006 Ford vehicles I thought this was too good to be true, so I went to their website and then to the local Ford dealership and before I knew it, I was signing the papers on the Satin Silver 2006 Ford Mustang Premium V6 coupe that I drive now.

Any one who knows me (well) knows that I am a Mustang fanatic and have been one for quite a long time. I originally had planned to get one back in 2002, but that was before my mom's '88 Sunbird went out on her for good and I gave her the car that would have been the trade in for my new car.

The only options that are added on to the base premium package are the sport appearence package, interior upgrade package (which I love), driver information center (which I also love), leather seats (which I didn't think I would enjoy, but I surprisingly do!) and automatic tranny. She was priced originally at $23545, got $5,000 for my [Cavalier (which I was pleasantly surprised with, which was what I wanted for her minimum...although I didn't tell the dealer this) despite all the various nicks, chips, and cracks in the paint (and glass), and the fact they knew the car was in an accident previously (I was straightforward about that). They did get a laugh out of me hitting a doghouse on the Interstate, so maybe that's the reason they gave me such a high trade-in number on my base Cavalier.

The price was $17000 out the door with 0% for 72 months but I decided to get the 6 year/72,000 mile extended warranty that covers everything on the car (it came with a 6 year/60,000 mile warranty but that only a powertrain warranty, and the total loss protection plan so if my car is ever totaled I would owe nothing on the remaining balance) and that added about $2,800 to the final price of the car.

This is definitely like a dream come true for me and I'm sure I'll take a hit on the MPG going from the Cavalier to a Mustang but I must say it's definitely worth it in my opinion to be able to finally get something for so long that I wanted but couldn't easily afford, as I would probably would have been paying back around $24,000 - $27,000 for the Mustang as compared to the $19,800 I will have to pay back now.

I took several pictures of her tonight, but here is the only one that turned out decent. I shot it with the Corvette because it was under good lighting and I needed that seeing how my digi camera is a piece of crap. I hope to go out tomorrow afternoon to snap some better pics.

I'm not leaving the .org however, (at least I don't plan to), I love being here and seeing so many of the wonderful modded Cavaliers that I have seen the past couple of years. They gave me the itch to mod my Cavalier so many times in the past, but I was just too chickensh@t to pull the trigger after having a bad dealing with my Cavalier and getting a radio installed when I first got it. I just want to stay here and see where everyone progresses on their projects.

Any one know if any good Mustang forums, that I can visit?

sorry if this is too long.

You know, I do plan to get the pony grille kit from Ford (I don't want to go through the hassle of rigging up GT lights as others have done from the pics I've seen plus I like the pony lights better than I do the GT that just look like another set of headlights) in the next couple of months. I wanted one with the pony package but they didn't have it...so I'll get the pony grille and foglights around Christmas time, when I have a little bit extra money from my Christmas bonus at work.

Nice purchase. Get some better pictures and post them up. Interrior and all. Normally I would say BLAH 6 cyl. But I heard the 6cyl is almost as fast as the older 4.6 was. Plus I love the design of the new mustangs. Which is odd because i'm not a big mustang fan. Good purchase. Sounds really nice and you seemed really pleased with it.

I'm totally in love with the elenor (sp?) kit.

NIce buy. The New 6 has alot of potential. I say go for I/H/E and a tuner to offset the change in MPG. I envy you lol

Here are some more pics that I took this afternoon. They aren't the greatest but definitely better than the ones I took last night.

I definitely plan on doing some modding in the future when the money is there. Mostly cosmetic and maybe some light performance. As I had said earlier, I plan on getting the pony grille insert within the next few months, and possibly a body kit (Street Scene, stage 1, which seems like it's the Type-J of the Mustang World as in everyone seems to have it), CAI, (maybe) sequential tails, and an upgraded exhaust system.

Gas mileage hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be in the first couple days I've had it. According to the D.I.C., I've been getting about 21.4 in the city and it has shot up as high as 27.2 when I take it out on the highways and Interstate. I guess I'll get a better estimate on MPG in 3 months time when she has really been broken in.

The V6 rumble isn't too bad either, but then again, none of the cars I previously owned really did "rumble."

I've read on a lot of different Mustang sites about the potential for the new V6s, so I'm eager to see what I can acheived if I decide I want a little more performance in the future.

Thanks for the comments

Damn, no edit button...

Bigger and wider 18 wheels/tires will come in the future when the rubber on the 16s become shot and need replacement.

Have you seen Street Tuner Challenge on speed? Three shops are building three cars. One of them is a Mustang V6. I've only seen it a few times and it seemed they didn't focus on the stang much in those episodes. They did do a body kit though that looked sweet.

I haven't seen it on Speed, and I watch Speed on a regular basis. What time and day does it air, because I wouldn't mind checking it out.

Nice looking car but if it were mine I'd probably lower it instantly, debadge it and take the black lettering off of the sides. Oh and i'd also get some wider wheels/tires. Good buy though, congrats!

Thanks,

Well I'm a little scrapped for cash at the moment seeing how I purchased a new computer a couple weeks ago and a new car, a few nights ago so mods won't come for a little while. I'm hopeful that I get my Christmas bonus so I can take that to get my pony grille and foglights insert. Lowering is a possibility but that will only come after I have decided firmly whether or not I want a body kit, chin spoiler, or to stick with the stock set up. Plus with all the road expansions and construction they are doing all over Lexington, I really don't want to go lowered right now with the roads being in such horrible condition as they are due to the construction.

There's not much really to debadge on the car really. I mean there's the Mustang symbol on the grille and the chrome emblem around the trunk lock but those are staying on and I don't plan to take them off. It didn't come with the pony package, so it's not like there's Mustang badging all around the car. I even told the dealer not to waste their time putting their dealership badging on it because I would just take it off the instant i got it home.

The Mustang tape stripe is staying for now. I actually like it and it carries on, in my opinion, the black and silver theme from outside of the car to inside of the car, so it works. The only way I see me taking that off is if I go for racing stripes, which at the moment is quite debatable.

New (and wider) wheels/tires (most likely 18s, maybe 19s) will come in the future when the rubber on the 16s need to be replaced. The 16s ride nice and aren't too shabby but I want to get the most use out of the stock wheels/tire package before I upgrade to a larger/wider size combo.

Nice, my mom got a Legend Lime Pony about 2 months ago, and I really like the car a lot. I told her that when the warranty's up, a Procharger is going in there

Nice. My friend has a white 05 with orange stripes and all the roush stuff on it and it looks really good.

I really like the side window scoops/louvers for the 05+stangs. The blacked out tail light panel that looks like the old mach 1's also looks really good. I think that would tie in with your silver/black theme well...

Here is a friend of mines Mustang. Its jut a v-6 but personally I think what is done cosmetically cannot get more perfect as far as Mustang styling goes. He just got done with a photoshoot for Modified Mustangs Magazine.

Katzkin seats on his car.

Gives you an idea of whats out there.

Chin Spoiler for GT front
Ducktail Spoiler
GT front Bumper
GT Rear Bumper
GT side skirts

What brand I have no clue. I'd have to ask him.

Nice, my grandpa just picked up his 06 Stang GT. White with red leather, manual and all. I drove it, the V8 is indeed fast.
