I strolled into a honda dealership the other day to check out the new civic SI and there was a black one w/ navi, the aftermarket body kit, summer tires, fog lights (which they want $900 for) and some $1400 "protection package". All in all they were asking 27000 for the car! does anyone see anything wrong with a 27000 civic?

That is nothing, a couple months ago my buddy and I went to pick up some Honda parts and they had one used (1000+miles) with FHP rims and body kit for $34K. (?)

hey that's market demand sadly. everyone want to be the first. they did it to the VW New Beetles (going for $33,000) when they debuted. Then the PT Crusiers($38,000 to $40,000 in Detroit). Now the New Mustang, Miata, Solstice and now the Civic as well. that's what happens.
In 1989 when the all-new Nissan 300 ZX came out, a dealer by my house in California got their first one and they were asking $68,000 for it!!!!! they were like $30,000 loaded in 1989. When the last gen Supra came out in the 90's a Toyota dealer had one in the show room and nobody was even allowed to get in it withouit a $1000 deposit...they wanted $80,000 for their first Supra. So is it stupid that Dealers jack up the price? or is it stupid that some boob will actually pay that much?
I say wait till the 2nd year on any new car

thats just plain nutty I say...............I mean with 27k you are in Acura tsx, WRX, New GTI.or all kinds of cars that out do the civic.....................I mean if you told someone you paid "27k" for a civic........or 40k for a Pt Cruiser........you will be laughed at.

27,000 is crazy. My buddy picked his up for a bit under 20,000.

There are some on ebay selling just for the rights to buy the car at dealer invoice....so not only are you paying for the right to own one, but you dont even know what the price is going to be.
The navi is probably a couple grand option alone.
Let's not forget the C6 Z06 vettes that were going for like 10K more than MSRP.
There are people willing to pay a premium to be one of the first to own something, the dealers know this and are trying to make an extra buck on that fact. Do I like it? No, the manufacturer set a MSRP and I see no reason anyone should have to pay mreo than that but realistically, the proper price for anything is the what the market is willing to pay for it. If someone is willing to pay 27K US for an SI then it'll sell, if not the dealer will frop the price unttil it does..
