My cousin picked up a 1989 Supra Turbo. He just called and said he can't figure it out but the thing is gutless.
It has about 130k miles. He said he said he blocked off the wastgate to see what it would boost to. He said it barely reaches 8 psi. And that it doesn't feel any better than if he left the boost alone. (in which case he said it wouldn't really get close to 8 psi).
He is assuming that the cats might be a mess and keeping him from getting any flow.
Any thoughts on what might be the matter?
Oh, and if anyone knows of any Supra forums that would be great!

2. My buddy has the same car and the boost from factory isnt much higher than 7 psi~. He also said to check for boost leaks especially on the piping piece behind the front bumper and also the 3000 Pipe connectors, the wastegate might also be seized open with you blocking it.
Oh and before I forget, he also said that from factory, yes they are "slow" but after you put a bit a $$$ u\into it, it will havce a fair amount of get up and go.

MkIII supras have a terrible problem with head gaskets.
IIRC, Cometic or HKS have a 2mm copper gasket kit that is apparently excellent, but factory boost isn't all that.
The engines can be built up nicely... This month's SCC has a well built-up 89 supra from British Columbia.... it's niiiiice.
