anything but a j-body?
Tuesday, March 14, 2006 10:11 PM
well today my sister killed her third j-body, a 2004 sunfire sedan. she slid down an off ramp and plowed the guard rail. this is after she mashed up the front bumper a few weeks ago (not her fault it was parked).

the car before that was a 2005 cavalier sedan, bought brand new. 5000 kms later was destroyed on the 401 by some idiot in a pick up truck. she was stopped on the highway due to a crash and this idiot smoked her from behind and pushed her in to the car in front of her.

and before that a 93 sunbird GT. again not her fault. stolen from the mall and found smashed.

she seems to be having really bad luck with j-bodys so im asking what is the total opposite of a j-body? i was thinking a Honda civic, she really does not want another J.

any suggestions? she just needs it for running around in and school. but it has to be reliable.

Budget? I'd say Civic or Corolla, or even Accord or Camry if you go back a few more years to some more reasonably priced ones.

Only issue I see is that there wasn't an 04 Sunfire Sedan.

The total opposite of a J-body would involve sending ME a few hundred thousand dollars to go to Europe, Japan, and various other locales to research and find the most expensive car possible.

get a truck!!!!!!!!!!!!

dinky civics and corollas are made with the same metal that they use on cavaliers some of them are even lighter and like tin cans. plus insurance on civics/corollas is expensive and if you get into accident be prepared to pay alot more.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ actually the cavalier is one of the highest economy cars on insurance around here, (Ontario) welcome to insurance hell. i took her around to the import dealers today and she likes the Toyota yaris??? that goofy thing the size of a coffee can. im going to talk her out of it if i can.

i told here go used, VERY used. now that she has 2 claims for accidents both of them write offs her insurance is going to be insane approx $7000 a year for the Toyota thing.

any suggestions for older compact cars she wont drive a truck and does not want a big car.
i was thinking like a mid 90's corolla or something.

Older Civic, older Corolla, older Protege,. Emphasis on the Civic.

Or if she likes the Yaris, look for a used Toyota Echo hatchback.

85 Celica GTS. man, I loved that car.

had a 22RE, which is like the GM 350 of the Toyota world, independant front and rear suspension, front and rear discs, and the most comfortable car seats I've ever sat in.
rather easy to work on, and there's at least 2 forum sites that I remember being on when I had mine.
that's also the last year model of the RWD Celica.

Look into a Honda Civic, Mazda Protege, Nissan Sentra, those cars are proven to be great.

A 00+ Neon (because they have full doors, and there were lots of problems with the half doors from 95-99, plus tranny improvements added to reliablity. Available with rear disk brakes, and 4wheel abs)

Ford Focus, they handle very well, which would be a plus for accident avoidence. The 5door hatch, and wagon models are quite versitle and convinient.

A older Volvo would be a good choice if she's expecting to hyave another accident. Might give her a sence of security.

A Saab would be very sporty, and quick. Nible aswell. Available with lo and hi boost turbo models, and a V6 in a small light weight car. Safety rating is close to a Volvo. Although older models had bad reliability. Still a good choice for anything newer than the 900 models.

Cool. I like the way the lancers look. Never driven in one though. If it's half as good as the Galants though... it's be awesome.
