Making a new Mark

"Next year, the Zephyr will be renamed the MKZ (Mark-Z), part of a new Lincoln strategy to give its vehicles alphabetical monikers the way some other luxury automakers do."

I wonder if it will work as well as Cadillacs? Only time will tell.

It was fine for European vehicles because that was their naming strategy.... I'm starting to get a little pissed off that automakers are letting their hallmark names go take a dirt nap.

Once Chevy starts doing it in large scale, that's it. Ford, don't give in like that.

"Snoop DTS" just doesn't have the same ring as "Snoop Deville"

but seriously, the 3, 5, 6, and 7-Series are known to be BMW's, just like the C, E, and S-Class are Mercedes'. but, nobody is going to going around saying "damn, did you see that sweet MK-series Lincoln?" it's not going to happen, stop trying to be better than you really are. just give the cars a real name that has a soul and purpose. how awesome would a Corvette be if it was called a CVT-FG, or a Viper if it was known as VPR-v10? let me answer - not at all

If you say Camaro, Firebird, Mustang, Torino, Barracuda, Road Runner... you know the kind of car you're talking about.

I don't want to have to reference Google everytime someone posts a model number.

Is that the name of the car?

I don't mind letter number names so long as there is some sort of system to the names..

BMW.. 3, 5, 7 are their progressively bigger cars and a 330 is a 3 series with a 3.0 L (more or less) engine in it. Audi with A|S+3|4|6|8 works well enough too.

The problem is that all the companies are now adopting it are doing it but without a similar sort of system in place. CTS? STS? DTS? XLR? what are those and how do they relate to each other?

If the letters are gonna be meaningless then you might as well use a name..
