The new Pontiac Solstice GXP if it hits the market as planned this fall in its current form it will have in it the most powerful engine ever produced by GM in a production car. It is reported to make 260 horsepower from a 2.0 litre or 122 cubic inch. That means its makeing more then 2 horsepower per cubic inch! A feet never before acomplished by GM in a production vehicle. Its said that the extra hardware for the turbo charger increases the cars weight by about 100 pounds. Pontiac is claiming 0 - 60 times of less then 5.5 seconds and its expected to raise the cars price tag by about $5000.00 over the the base sticker of $20,490.00.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one cause it will be a huge milestone to pass for GM in hitting more then 2 horeses per cubic inch !

The Best Honda can do is 100 hp per litre right?
If Teaching Evolution is Outlawed, Only Outlaws Will Evolve.
Not sure Gam I'm not a Honda fan so I won't venture a guess. I just thought it was cool thats all. 260 hp out of 122 cubic inches. For a 350 to be comprable it would need to crank out over 700 hp to be this engines league! And that ain't gonna happen from GM !

Musta missed that. Oh well carry on then.

keep in mind how much HP the 1.3 rotary motor in the rx7 puts down.. over 200HP
Had to change sig because some dickhead is mad it went 1 letter over size
1.3 is actually more like 2.6, plus its a different type of engine and cant be compared directly to a piston engine. Still, that is pretty cool.

since when does gm own mazda?

Thank you Borsty ! Or Mitsubishi or Subaru for that matter.

congratulations, it only took a turbocharger and direct injection to accomplish something that the japs have been doing since the beginning of time
yes, i'm an anti-american import-loving fag
Honda's best was 121 hp/Liter in the S2000 before they increased the displacement to 2.2L.
That's still an awesome feat, but I'd rather see that done the old fashioned way, no turbo or supercharger.
Yella02-I promise I will return to you in one piece and this will stay up until I am safely home
to clear some things up:
Mazda RENESIS is 1.3 (2x650 rotar) 238hp NA so 183hp/L (although it is rotary)
Honda's best american market is 103.5 hp/L NA
GXP: yes, this is going to be one fast facker. and a milestone for GM... but it's kinda like setting a new world record, in the special Olympics. It may be your best yet, but others have you beaten.

2 hp per cubic inch. That means our OHV 2.2s could theoretically be replaced by 1.0 liter ecotecs and we couldnt tell the difference. lol
(jk im sure the tourqe would suck pretty bad)

Amazing how people turned this into a import VS domestic war just becasue GM might be breaking new ground with the solstice. Yeah, the japs have a lot of @!#$ that we don't, and we have @!#$ that they don't, who gives a rats. The topic is about GM, not Imports VS Domestic. Would be cool for GM did it, that way they can have some positive research and desgin to all the negative publicity that he media is giving them. Good way to boost moral.

Rotaries push as much air as a normal engine twice their displacement, therefore Mazda's 1.3L Rotary is the equivalent to a 2.6L Engine, and can not be compared directly.
Honda's current best is 109.1 hp/Liter the S2000 puts down 240 hp from a 2.2L I-4, prior to that it was 120 hp/Liter, from the same car using a 2.0L engine, same horsepower, just .2L smaller.

I've read that rotaries for the most part have been measured wrong. Even by Mazda it doesn't displace 1.3 litres it is in actualyity 2.6 litres so moot point. And again the post was about the Solstice NOT your Vtec Hondas or Rotor engines.
And Brown Eye please show us which jap engine has exceeded 2 horsepower per cubic inch ? I don't remember saying anything about 100 per litre.

ok hold on, i must have missed something. i can think of dozens of production GM cars with more power than 260HP. am i reading something wrong or is the topic/quote stated wrong?
GO PATS!!!
Redneck, I was stateing horsepower per cubic inch NOT total horsepower. Sorry for any confusion.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
So wait, the title should have read "Greatest power efficient GM engine in a production car" right?
Not trying to step on toes, just making sure we're not truly claiming this engine to be the most powerful ever.
