I'm just fishing for opinions about what I should get. So far, I am looking at either a Cobalt SS or a tC. This will not be a racer, since the cav will be able to take over full track duty position. Either would be fine with me and I'm thinking of getting the final total for both before choosing. I thought about considering the new civic Si as well since it's in the same price range. Haven't heard too much about it though.

If it's not gonna be a racer, I'd say tC out of the choices.
First of all, I'd like to thank certain JBO'ers for being such Cobalt-nut-sucking tools.
Secondly, I'd like to thank Travis Kearny and Jordan Kruger for being so entertaining.
I <3 falnfenix, JimmyZ, Borsty, NJHK, and all the other intelligent people on JBO
i'm in the same situation right now. i really like the SS s/c but they are just not the most practical vehicles for daily driving especially in the winter. i looked at the tC and they are probably the most sought after car in the compact market right now. everyone is trying to order one and they told me the wait list is crazy. i really dont care for the tC though since the supercharger option has to be bought and installed separately by the dealer. more hassle than i want to deal with. if 4x4 trucks werent such slow gas hogs i would be on a new truck like a homeless person on a ham sandwich...
If you want more information on the Civic Si, check out Motortrend's website; it was their Car of the Year winner.
If your new car won't be a track/performance car then I would suggest leaving the Cobalt SS out of the picture. With the way things have been going at GM, I wouldn't think that it would hold its value very well over time. If I were you I would look into either the Tc or the new Si, but it also depends on how much insurance will be for either and the max car payments you can handle. Check out both cars at dealer lots and compare them; personally, I like the layout of the interior of the Tc better than the Si.
Blown.
I like the Si, but it cost a lot more for the Si than the tC. Not sure which one I would want. If I work for the Honda dealer instead, than Si here I come.

i saw one new Si and they look sooo much better in person. For what you get with the civic id say its the best bang for the buck. But for just general driving and nothing to crazy id go Tc. Im surprised theres still a waiting list on a TC. The dealership near me had like 5 of em sitting out for a while now. My buddy just went and picked one up.

thats what i didnt understand. i saw a couple of tC on the lot when the salesman told me this. but i think he was referring to the wait for one thats ordered direct from the factory maybe?
From what a scion dealer told me most of there cars are made to order. Most people buy the extra crap to put on them, so the factory installs the crap before they ship. The ones on the lot are probably bone stock. If you don't order the extra crap (spoiler, wheels, neon junk) then you would probably get it faster. At least this is what the dealer told me. The civic feels a lot better than the TC or the SS IMO.
I would vote tC.
I was not impressed with my g/f's 03 Civic EX she had. The fragile paint was the main reason. I thought that the daily driving rock chips on the rear wheelwell lip rusting was
chips rusting on the windshield wiper arms was
rock chips on the hood rusting was
My 92 Toyota Paseo is blasted with chips on the hood. Yeah, some of them did lead to rust, but if the Civic had the same condition, the hood would have been brown from rust. My wiper arms have zero rust on them.
I had the chance to take over payments on the Civic. It was an EX coupe, with 55K. I think it was about $11k payoff in the middle of last year. I passed due to the rust issues. Some days I regret passing, but most days I do not.
I am getting ready to pass 10K Miles on my tc, the thing is still awesome. Only one problem, had a tire issue, but thats more of Ohio's crap roads than anything to do with the car. Lots of room in a tC, the back seat is enormous, im 6 2 and can sit in the back comfortably
i would go for the tc if value is an issue, but the si would be tempting too. i would almost guess you will save 3 grand by going with the tc.
