so my friend truy's brother wrecked his jdm 01 si and with his ins money he put a down payment on this wicked ride.... now this was three months ago and am finally willing to admit to people how sweet of a ride he bought.......06 stage 2 sti.... stock is 375hpr... rumor is its at the wheels. he paid like 36k for it or something.
there hasnt been anything that can even try to run this car yet... there are quite a few 350s with like ten gs in performance and still nothing to shake at this car. i dont even know how he got the car espcially when he got it... .... if anyone has seen one of these or had the joy of riding in one............

An 06 STi is 300hp 300 ft/lbs stock just like the 04's and 05's. Now if he bought it used and it had what you call "stage 2".....it is probably something like the COBB stage 2 Accessport program. Mods would consist of a full turbo-back exhaust upgrade and Accessport ECU reprogramming at a minimum. Expected CRANK hp for a Sage 2 STi is ~ 350hp and 385 ft/lbs.
I hope your friend isnt an idiot ricer who knows nothing of the car he just purchased.

how you like your sti? thats what i wanted when i bought the gt but had a weakness to have a v8.... debating either a used reg rex or used sport trac for daily driving....dont want the rex to seem slow....and dont want sti envy.

No, NO STi's are rated at the wheels.
The COBB Stage 2 that I have is 350 Crank HP and 385 Crank torque. Yes it is crazy fast though.
If you are debating on what Subaru to get, try for an STi. SOLID drivetrain, 6spd, amazing package all together.
If you cant afford an STi....go for an 06 WRX. New for 2006 in the WRX is the same 2.5l as the STi. Now the WRX still has the smaller turbo/I-C, 5 speed tranny, different differentials and axles, suspension, and brakes. BUT the 2.5l is a hugely better engine than the older USDM WRX 2.0L.

well i just bought my mustang gt new in april... wont be buying something over 30k for a few years... just looking for a sweet daily driver with good winter abilities. was considering buying my moms 5 speed 03 forrester with the 2.5 and awd.. but only if the turbo kit will fit easily... im looking for a good cheap car under 15k
the reason i bought the stang over an 04 sti was mostly maintenance costs and the petty thought of not liking the sound of a four cylinder.plus i talked them so far down on the price i woulda been stupid to not buy it. around here every wanna be car would do nothing but harrass me in the sube. i just get to deal with the mullet boys now but you give em some meth or a naty light and some ozzy tickets and they shut up.
i was talking to a few people that told me just to buy a used 04 2.0 and for half of the price difference placed under the hood it could out perform the sti ..... granted i know the sti can be sooooooo much more but once you run 11s or have over 400foot pound and hpr you are pretty much tempting yourself for a lot of bad ideas behind the wheel. lol. everyone has a 'next time' car. im more into the 'in adition to' car. the rustang was more for an ego thing and a little bit of a desire to break away from what is expected.

im not getting rid of the stang man..... god no... its gettin a roush stage three exterior with saleen skirts (roush are to low and make the car look mis shapen) and saleen wing( cause roush is ugly so is the stock one). possibly a cobra r hood....with hyper black 18x10s in rear and 18x8s up front... thats all the exterior im doing. next treatment are 3.73 gears beiiger tb and an x pipe. most likely doing the six speed swap also. some more suspension inbetween and headers and before its boosted. im not supercharging it till the warranty is gone.im just looking for other cars for fun.... i like variety.

STI's are pretty nice, Im suppose to pick up a new car soon can't decide between the SRT-4 or the WRX

You know what, I love when people bring up this argument.
Once you begin modifying a vehicle there is no way to tell how much crank hp the car is putting out. Unless you take out the engine for an engine dyno, which is ludacris. Once modifying begins the the owner will get his car dyno'd at the wheels, that then becomes his only measure of performance increases. Does it matter how much crank hp the car is putting out NO, because you already have a dyno of power at the wheels.
SO, yes AWD does create more drivetrain loss from crank hp to wheel hp, but you would never know how much that is because you will never have the "engine" dyno'd. And let me tell you, a 450 whp STi will severly take advantage of any fwd or rwd car with the same wheel hp.

you are aware that a stock Cobalt SS runs away from the STI right ? true not the WRX but I think its kinda cool that the Subi needs over 300 horses to compete with the SS. Thats a lot of drivetrain loss if you ask me.

First off.....I'm sure the people at Subaru Technica International had a picture of the Cobalt SS up on their design room wall with a big target drawn on it. (sarcasm end)

My stock little drive train sucking, 300hp STi trapped at 103mph with an ET of 13.2 stock. I havent met too many Cobalt SS (sinister laugh) to run away from that. I hope the SS owners have fun with their smaller pulley upgrades.....my STi is currently at 300whp and 328 w ft/lbs with a computer flash and turbo back exhaust.

wtf... cobalt ss to an sti.... give me a break. ss beating rex i can see...but still..who cares? awd owns everything. life isnt spent at the track its spent driving. sube has been making good solid awd forever. who cares about ss? its a freak occurance. sti is built to be race ready. truly good fast cars arent under 20k.... the ss is just a gm made srt4 in all reality.......
