This spring I am looking to sell the Sunfire for a Celica GT. I'm thinking I would only be able to afford around a 2000 or so What does everybody think of them? Are there any recalls that I should be aware of when looking? Also, It wil definitely be standard tranny since my fire right now is auto.
They are really nice cars in terms of handling, fit n finish, resale value and both interior and exterior looks are great.
The main down side: SLOW
Dont expect it to be a speed demon. But if you just want a nice overall sport looking car, then id say go with it.
I love mine to death and speed isnt a big thing for me. So it worked out perfect.
^^^ he couldn't have put it better.
if you're looking at celicas and want more driver opinions, check out newcelica.org(as is in his sig) or allgencelica.com - both are good forums. the latter is more of a social forum, so take your pick. both forums have people who know boatloads about the car.

Its the same concept as the Tiburon. The Celica is a great looking car, but if you want speed, you'll have to go for the Celica GTS. Just like the Tiburon, nice looking, but slow unless its the GT-V6.
They are fun little cars. I drove one before i bought my prelude. It was just a little too small for me.

I wouldnt trade a sunfire gt for a celica gt.
How many steps to heaven, Doc?
...Ah, metaphysics.

what, you don't like guaranteed reliability and a far better resale value?

and his sunfire gt prolly runs low 16's...being as its an auto..
why wouldnt u trade?
there nice looking cars, but expensive, if i were you, id get a GT-S...prolly find those for the price as a GT...

Other then insurance being higher, starting over when it comes to modding, and possibly getting someone elses problems. Why wouldn't he consider not trading?
My bestfriend owns a Carbon Blue (? - color reflects blue or black when light hits it) 2000 Celica GT. They are a blast to drive! When I was learning to drive a 5 speed, this was the car I learned to do it. They handle the road very well. Pretty fast (in my opinion), sits very low. The seats (her are blue and black) hug the body very well, even for me being a big guy.
5 speed is definitely the way to go in my opinion. The car shifts better than the '05 LS Sport Cavalier I test drove earlier in the year.
The only problem we had with her car were minor mechanical problems. Someone had installed an alarm system (and a panic button) and her fogs kept shorting out, but we ended up getting that fixed. She's only getting about 75% of potential gas effiency at the moment because her check engine light is on and we cannot figure what's wrong. We took it to a couple Toyota dealerships and no one can figure out how to turn off the check engine light (don't ask me why).
I have like the look of the Celica GT and GTS ever since it came out. Sort of reminds me of a front engine version of the 1995 MR2. Too bad Toyota just couldnt get them to sell as well as what the competition was putting out.

After looking around at a few celicas I decided I'm in love with the TRD kit...the wing and all. Its absolutely sexy.

I really like the new celica's alot. I say go for a nice condition GTS.
I drove my old bosses Celica. i think it was a 2002. He told me he paid $42000 for it new.
I must say this, for $36500 my car was a much better deal.
I found the celica to be awkward looking from the outside. The layout of the interior was cluttered and awkward. There was very little room inside and the visability was horrific. The rear window was impossible to see out of, and the shape of the side windows made checking the blindspots pointless. Also because of the curved shape of the side windows, checking the mirror could only be done by craining my neck to the sides.
I wasn't pleased with the overall feel of the car. it sat a bit high for my liking and on turns it would tip, much like my old Cavalier. Power wasn't all that apparent either. Sure it could spin its tires at the drop of a hat, but transferring that to the road wasnt done in the most effective way IMO.
Looking around the car, it just screamed cheap. There was no effort to hide the solid hard plastic dash. Even my old cavalier had a padded dash. Everything inside this car was plastic. There were no attempts to refine the look or feel of anything inside the vehicle. If i was going to invest $42k on a car, I would want leather seats, some interior padding and maybe some chrome or woodgrain to dress it up a little. Even if it's fake, something to make it look expensive. Instead, the celicas interior had more in common with that of a Ford Focus or a KIA.
Overall the entire celica experience left me wanting, andI couldn't wait to get back into my own car.
have you taken a serious look at your car? You think the celica looks cheap?
Wow that cant be right, $42K for a Celica?!
I didn't think the interior was cheap when compared to my fire. I actually like the stance the celicas have and the interiors look sleek to me.

Ryan:
- i agree the car is way overpriced. And the interior is hard plastic for the most part, not what i wold expect on a car that price.
- all wood nowadays is fake because real wood splinters in a crash and empales people.
all in all, i'm waiting to get a 1994 GT-Four. ANyone know where i can find a forum for this gen, JDM specific.

Compared to your
vast array of entry level vehicles, my car looks and drives like a Bentley. It's six years old and is still worth more than your cars were when they were new. So don't hassle me about my car son. I've been buying, selling and driving cars since before you could see over the wheel. And just because you like to piss your money away foolishly on junk, doesn't mean anyone else has to. Mummy and daddy don't buy my cars for me, so I actually
do care if I get lumbered with a piece of junk like I did once before.
And
yes, I do think the Celica looks cheap. I don't go for busy lines and gaudy body styles. Ever heard the statement
less is more? I'll take clean lines of my Prelude over something that looks like a Pokemon parade float any day.
I look for refinement in items I buy.
Why have cloth when I can have leather? Why have bare plastic when I can have a padded dash? Next time you have one of your vehicles running, go out on a drive and have a look at a Prelude. Shave, and don't wear anything ripped or greasy, maybe the salesman will let you within twenty feet of the car. From that distance you'll be able to see that they definately
AREN'T cheap my son. Not cheap to buy, and not cheaply built. How much have I spent on repairs on my Preludes since I got them in November 2003? $0.00. Three years into my J-body purchase I'd replaced just about half the car just to keep the damn thing on the road. So don't you talk to me about
cheap cars.
Here is a bit of history for you. When Prelude was introduced in 1979 it was the platform for Honda's latest advances. Much like the Cadillac Eldorado of the 1950's. Because of it's small size, limited practicality for the larger market share the Accord catered to, and it's rising price tag, Prelude was phased out in 2001. Instead of making the car cheaper, by cutting down on the extras that were included with the car, Honda decided to stop production. Not many people could justify spending nearly $40000 on what was basically a two seat coupe, when for a bit less they could have an Accord coupe with more room, which in later years looked much like the Prelude itself.
Toyota on the other hand made the Celica cheaper, offering manual options and cheaper models with less power.
On the prelude, the only choices you had were, automatic, or manual, Type SH or Base, (or SE in 00-01). Foglights and lip kit. Everything else came standard on it. Heated mirrors, seats, power everything, 4 wheel disc brakes, 17" alloy wheels, sunroof and the list goes on. How many of
your cars came equipped with half those "options" as standard features Roscoe? ..and you have the front to say my car is cheap.
You wish.
Anyways,
Why should someone pay $40000 on an awkward looking car that's made predominantly of plastic? When they could cut to the chase and buy a Focus or a KIA something or other for less than half the price and end up with the same thing.
Doesn't make sense to me.
