my freind just bought a new tc 5spd and i have a 97 z24 5speed and were going to the tracks tomorow
mainley so i can just see what my car really does cause next friday i have to race there again with a 200$ bet <(dont worry about that guy he thinks i run a 17.5s 1/4 mile)
and im just wondering if anyone has raced a tc and what should i expect, the only thing ive done to my car was a short ram intake
160hp and 3000lbs vs 150hp and 2600lbs
You do the math
oh... i mean 152hp since you have an intake lol
i raced a tc at the race track thrusday night , and it was running high 16's low 17's all night
it was a 5 spd
when i raced him , i just flat out killed him , i ran a 16.07
i run 15.3@89.9mph
you should be in the mid - high 15's
ive raced one if thats what you would even call it because it was like the car was basicly standing still but then again i have the gm s/c but im 100% positive that a stock Z could easly take one no prob, they are not very quick cars even though they have 10hp over a Z24 it losses all of that addvantage and then sum with 400lbs more of weight on the car
i must say they are really nice cars for the money
I seen a video of a tC against an EP3...The Si should have pulled but it got waxed...The tC should be a little slower than an EP3 and base RSX...so if you can beat either of those through the 1/4...you should take a tC no problem.

i saw a video of a TC running 12s at the race track on stock internals, but stock they are slow. . .i think they would have a hard time with a 2200.

Speaking of the Lexus IS, the tC is nearly as quick as its 215-hp luxury cousin. The sporty Scion scoots from 0 to 60 in 7.4 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 15.7 seconds at 88 mph, only 0.1 and 0.2 second, respectively, behind the IS ("$35,000 Sports Sedans," March 2004). Moreover, because the tC is geared fairly short—final drive is 4.24—its 30-to-50-mph top-gear time of 8.5 seconds is a 10th quicker than the six-cylinder IS's. Talk about "hardly shabby." Against its natural rivals, the tC is equally competitive. To 60, it is quicker than the Civic Si (8.0) and the Mini Cooper (8.3). It's even with the Mazda 3 s and just 0.4 slower than the supercharged Cooper S, which is the only one of the group to outgun the tC to the quarter-mile, nipping it by 0.2 second. And remember, the blown Mini starts at $20,449.
Coming from owning a number of j-body's I can say that the tC 5 speed has better gearing and is a faster car. It anyways depends on drivers also. There are more factors that play into quickness then just weight and HP. I think that J-body's can be fast and made into nice cars, but I won't be giving up my tC for one any time soon, hehe.

so what happened did u win?
If that kid was running high 16's/low 17's in a tC than he obviously can't drive. Mid-high 15's seems to be the times they're running, which is pretty close to most other sub $20K sport compacts out there. Being able to "take a tC, no problem" is a pretty sordid statement.
I say driver's race - just like an EP3, and a base RSX.
I can say one thing though... stock, tC's don't handle very well. You can tell they're heavy and the tires that come on them stock pretty much suck. Don't get too big headed with a Z24 comparison though as far as handling... atleast the tC has independent rear suspension.
It's still a boat though and the stock tires suck. That's why mine won't be staying that way for long (hopefully).

i raced a TC yesterday and waxed its ass. it was no contest. i put a couple bus lengths on that car.
but, i am in an 87 sunbird with a 2.3HO motor swapped in, so im a little faster than stock Jbodies.
