not sure if this has ever been posted but its something to read that has some good points about comparing cars based on what they beat street racing

Street racing is ALWAYS a BAD idea but some cars have never BEEN to the racetrack and will NEVER BE at the racetrack. Some people don't want it to be FAIR or EVEN. Some don't want their performance to be TIMED because it will show REALITY. They don't want anything to do with REALITY.

By even talking about street racing in this forum is against the rules of this forum, but how can you call
anyone who street races a "rice boy"?So I guess the people in the 60's and 70's era's who ALWAYS ran
their muscle cars on the street were "rice"?Give me a break, the one's who are always dogging on those who
street race are most likely the one's who do it more often than none.

naw man, i think what he meant to say was that the ppl who won ever take their cars to the track and timed due to the fact that they know their sh t is slow... similar to me
lol i wont go or dyno because i dont see the point of running a 16 second 1/4 and putting down 125whp.
I would run 16's most of the time, if I raced 1/4 mile. I have no problem with being slow as long as I have a chance to win. Bracket racing gives me that chance.
I hate bracket racing....
I would probably run a 15 flat if I could get my car to hook up....
The linky really wasn't about street racing as much as it was about the fact that just because you beat someone by half a car doesn't mean your car is faster.... al it means is that you won that particular race.
Which is something I've been preaching forever..... My dad and I race all the time and we are about even as far as victories go..... (although I think mine is a little faster than his now).
No matter who won... we both knew it was only luck.... not the car....
Just incase your wondering.... my dad drives an 86 Ford Mustang 5.0 HO 5-speed with about the same mods that I have.
it wasnt about street racing
it was about not being able to judge how fast a car is by street racing
you could take 2 of the same exact car and street race them, and one could win by three lenghts on the street
try the same 2 cars on the track and there wont be much difference in time if any
there is ALOT of kids around where i live that think their car are fast because they won a few street races

Most of them are probably claiming victory against cars who weren't even racing, Autozone Rice Isle Warriors FTL

street racing is crap anyway i just got arrested last thursday for doing that stupid @!#$. i go 2 court on wednsday
13.1 @ 115
i just don't race. my car is slow. i proved it at the 04 bash. 17.6 was my best run. stock 2002 2200, 5 speed, 17" wheels and a system at the time with a 180lb driver. since i've added a lot more weight without doing any engine upgrades i'll be even slower. as far as street racing, why? i'm not going to put myself or anyone else in jeopardy because someone wants to beat a cavalier with weight addition and a stock motor. i know i'll lose and i don't see the point in putting my life, my car or my license on the line to prove it.

I disagree. It's all about reaction time. Yes, given 2 identical cars on the street, one could win by three lengths. But lets say you have 2 identical cars at the track, what happens when one guy is a half second quicker on the tree than the other guy? Quarter mile ET's aside, one car still wins by a few lengths, even though both are identical. I'm not saying we should all go street race and it's the best, but as far as who wins the race, it's all about reaction time and how good the driver is, no matter where you're racing

Anyone who talks crap about how fast their car is, but won't take it to the track is either a liar, a moron, a pussy, or all 3. And their have been PLENTY of people around here who got worshipped for their "fast" cars but to this day don't have a timeslip to prove it. If you're not going to race, why even bother spending the money to mod your powertrain? If you're going to race, why risk the penalties and race on the street, and have nothing to show for it besides empty kill stories and traffic offenses? I'm not going to sit here and judge the youngins who get their first taste of some speed and do a race here or there, you know what, it happens, even though it shouldn't. I learned my lesson when I got pulled over doing some really stupid sh*t, and after a series of incredibly LUCKY circumstances got most of the heat off of me, I was smart enough to not be stupid like that again. Its just not worth it, because in the end, you don't get anything more than a quick rush out of street racing. At least at the track, you have a slip to prove it and there are people there watching. I used to love bringing the beetle to the track because I'd stomp a stock mustang and I'd have little kids and their parents cheering me on from the stands as I'd go back down the return road. That kind of rush is way worth the $13-30 bucks it takes to pay to get into the track and not have to worry about the potential fines or incarceration.

I'm not going to lie there is a rush to street racing. It's a problem that has existed sincd the first cars rolled off the assembly line. I myself was not immune in the late 90's to the lore. Was it a bad choice? Yes, it was. People die in racing in general. Street racing only increases the likely hood. I've seen alot of people die from street racing crashes. But as much as peoplestop the races or try to block talking about it (JBO). It is a reality.
Barely Street Legal!!!
I'll be going to the track next year assuming that my car is fixed...
The only street racing that ever really goes on in town where I live.... is your ususall stoplight races where people usually let off around 10mph or so over the speed limit...... wich in all reality.... isn't very dangerouse or a big deal.
Although there is always this one guy that just won't let off until he's doing 60mph in a 30..... thats the type of people you need to worry about.
Most if not all the real races (not spur of the moment) happen in the country.... and if the 2 cars are even remotely close..... it turns into a traction war since it's hard as hell to hook on the street around here.... let alone country roads.
My point is that racing really isn't much of a problem if the people doing it know what they are doing (aka.... not punching your car wide open in heavy traffic).
It's not even really on the cops radar where I live.... and if your not an idiot.... you won't get caught... and as long as you watch your speed... it really isn't any more dangerouse than normal drivin...... taking off fast isn't dangerouse.... it's not being able to stop or react because you are going too fast thats dangerouse.... gony from 0-45mph in 2 seconds is safer than going 55mph down the highway..... so I really don't understand everyones hard on for this..
If it whern't for the cops...... you would all do it constantly.
