a friend of mine with a srt4 told me that if i used his drag radials that i could possibly snap my axle shaft. is this true and if so has anyone had it happen to them. if not, i am going to run my car with them on. even stock my car spun really bad off the line....

you'll be fine. ask your friend what his logic is.

I may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.

he didnt know if the stock axle would hold up to the sticker tires. i think his logic was he didnt want my car to break b/c of his tires.

don't worrry about your axles, unless you wheel hop too much, our axles are very strong....

He's thinking about HIS axles. The SRT axles are so weak compared to ours. Ours are almost the same thickness as a C5 Corvettes.

Bahahahahahahaha... breakin an axle on a J without being stupid is harder said than done... I've yet todo it even with 7000rpm launches with 24.5x8x15 m/t slicks.

If the car starts to get wheel hop get off the throttle, other than that people seem to be okay. I have seen plenty of fairly stock n/a Cavs break axles and diffs due to wheel hop.

Last weekend I snapped my axle. dont know if I had a weak axle or what, I kept playing with the launches, starting at 2500 the tires just spun, 3000 hooked alittle, then at 4000 it snapped the axle right inside the knuckle.

Here are a couple pics I snapped

ouch ! I launched at 3500 a couple of times this year with drag radials... It must be hard for those poor axles to get over 200 wtq on 'em instantaneously

hopefully mine won't break... anyway I spin if I launch at 4000 rpms even on my drag radials

If I haven't broken an axle with over 300WHP I don't think 200 should break them.

ill stick to my Good years ahah id rather let the tires spin and have that as my weak point then breaking an axel (or having the chance)... the small amount of time that Drag tires would cut off is not worth it to me on a street driven car... plus i would rather know what my car can do in full out street trim.... rather then swicting out my tires just for racing... but like it was said wheel hop is the #1 killer of a drive train...

It will not be any more harsh on your axels then your stock tires.

Read this sticky from the wheel and tire section.

ive had no problems with a 3500 launch getting a 1.8 60' . ive only snapped 1 axel and that was when i fitst raced the car and i was stupid and launched at 5000 and didnt ride the clutch i just droped it and only went about 3 feet. So just be smart with the launch and everything will be ok. Just watch out for the wheel hop.

30+ 4000rpm launches at the track and prolly another 50 on the street

axels is fine. I just ordered a set of BFGoodrich Gforce drag radials

I'll let you know if i break an axle with my new, higher yet-to-be-determined launch point

Are the cobalt/ion axles the same as these?

I've heard it's becoming a big problem with those guys. A guy I know snaped the axles twice in his Cobalt SS with a stage 2 on street tires.
