Went to Portland International Raceway for the first time on Friday. I was hoping to be able to break into the 15's, but I just couldn't pull it off.
My car's info:
Bone stock '05 Sunfire 1SV. I got there with 3/4 of a tank, and left with just over 1/2. Nothing was removed from the car (spare tire, seats, trim, nothing), nothing has been added for power or racing (stock intake, shifter, even stock RSA's on stock pressure). I ran against my friend's Z24 (loaded auto '96 with 100K+ and only intake/exhaust so I thought I would win) on the first, fourth, and fifth runs. The second run was against a gutted first gen DOHC Neon, and the third was against a 3rd gen Iroc-Z.
I did a small burnout at the beginning of all but the last run, just to clear the tires. I launched around 2000rpm, and didn't squeal much (if at all) until the last run. And I held it till just as the tach hit the red line (62-6300) in each gear. Anyways:

Fairly disappointed, but it was still a fun time seeing some cool cars and bs'ing with some cool people. I know I need to work on my launches, and that should cut my times down. Any advice from you guys? Launch higher, etc...I want to see if I can break into the 15's in full street trim.
you're not tachin it out, are you? bad boy!!! redline that sumbitch every gear... I can tell you're probably shifting too short because you MPH is really low.... Other than that, try 20 psi tire pressure in the RSA's... you'd be real surprised how well those tires do... I was at 15 psi on stock RSA's just like yours when I cut my 2.0 60' times, and that was making a buttload of tire-shredding torque.
85mph trap speed if very low to me.... all of the 1SV's i've seen have trapped 88+, and i don't think an intake alone could possibly be worth 3 mph, so the only other explanation is that you had a lot of dead weight in there with you, or you're shifting at too low of an rpm. The eco likes to be brought right up to the rev limiter... don't hit it, but come as close as possible. if you look at the "14 Second All Motor Ecotec" post, Mandy (LambofGoddess) describes her launch technique somewhere in that thread, so that might give you some ideas.

launching at 2000 rpm is definitely holding you back.
also don't worry about your first time out... I ran 16.4 the first time with my sunfire, and I worked it down to 15.5
15.574 @ 89 mph stock without charger. new times with charger coming soon.
Went again tonight, managed to break into the 15's! Got a 15.9xx 3 times, with a best run of 15.923@86.05.
Only thing I changed was launching. I was uncomfortable launching around 3000 at first, but each time I got a 15.9 it was from launching up there, so I'm definitely keeping it that way. I was planning on dropping tire pressure, but I couldn't get hold of a gauge, and didn't want to do it blind, so it was still stock tire pressure.
My friend Zach with the auto Z was there again, running in the 15.7-15.9 range the whole night. And, on a funny note, he got a .001 reaction time, the best out of anyone for the whole night.
