What are you doing launch wise? Did you ride out 3rd or give up and shift to 4th?

I'm asking because I'm running a 15.3 right now, but I pulled a really @!#$ty 60ft for my run.....

Very nice time for your mods .

I ran a 9.790 1/8 with just a cone filter and exhaust, but what I did was ride out third. I also had amazing traction, which helped. Lamb, that's an awesome time! Now get a header and see if you can break into the 14's!

i launched from 4000, i think thats what may have done it for me, because before this i couldn't break 15.4, when launching at 3500.

when i tried 4000, i hooked up real nice, so i suppose that's what did it. i'm on stock tires so hopefully soon i can get better ones soon, also just a heads up i weighed my car and it's 2490 lbs. (its a 1sv...no NOTHING, not even ABS haha). also, i only weigh 115-120 so im not weighing it down too much either.

i shift into 4th, i honestly don't think i'd make it through 3rd without hitting the limiter before getting through the beams..

but yeah, i was very happy, thanks guys for the positive response

See--I wonder if my 16s are hurting me that badly.... I'm gonna try to go at it tomorrow with my 14s on and see if I can get below a 15.5 at least (I've only managed a 15.7 so far). My mods as of now are, RK intake, Pacesetter header, Magnaflow cat and resonator, OBX muffler, 2.25" pipe, B&M short shifter, solid motor mounts. I have the base model Cav with the sport appearance package (16" wheels and spoiler) and sport suspension (bigger front sway bar). I CAN NOT pull a decent 60' time.

When you launch, are you dumping the clutch or kind of slipping it a bit?

Anyway, awesome time for the mods--keep it up.

i don't know i don't think that the wheels would make THAT much of a difference, but its possible, do you take out any extra weight also?

where are you launching at? and at what RPM are you shifting? that may be what's messing you up.

i want to say that i'm slipping the clutch when i launch but to be honest in the heat of the moment (haha) i can't explain exactly what i do....

also do you air down your front tires?

well good luck...

and thank you =)

That extra 300 lbs. will makes a pretty big difference.

the wheels shouldn't make too much of a difference unless the tires on the 14's are a smaller outer diameter than the ones on the 16's... otherwise, the steelies versus the alloys are probably pretty close in weight, but maybe the bigger sidewall of the 14's give some bit of a grip advantage? not enough to make a significant difference though, its mostly in the weight and in Mandy's natural talent. (god i should just backspace that now because I'm never gonna hear the end of it after admitting to that)......

yes, but i don't think his is 300 pounds more, he only has the sport appearance package...but i don't know the exact weights of all the different models so i could be wrong..

and thank you jay. =)

Most 3rd gen J's I've seen on a scale weigh around 2700-2760 lbs, but I've not yet seen a stripper model, that's why everyone's so suprised about your car's weight. Once the car has options like power windows, doorlocks, sunroof, and all the other bs, it adds up quick.

My car has nothing--just like his. no power options, no ABS, nothing---except the sport appearance package.

I do remove some weight (spare and jack, back seat). I'm launching at around 2500 RPM and shifting around 6000. And I do air down the fronts---usually to about 30psi.

I'm gonna try a few different things this week if i go,

Well when you launch are you spinning?

I'm think it is time for me and my car to go on a diet. If my car weighted that it would be killer!!!

try launching a little higher. my first time out i was launching between 3000 and 3500, and couldn't get better than 15.4, but when i tried 4000, i got my 15.2. so maybe that could help.

i would suggest airing down your fronts a little more. i air mine down all the way to 20 psi. i've gotten way better results this way, especially with where i launch..

and possibly shift a little later, i usually try to shift around 6300. but i don't know if the difference between when i shift at 6000 or 6300 is really significant.

and what my dad ALWAYS tells me before i go to the track "I want you to shift like your ripping that shifter out of the floor!" hahaha..it goofy, but it's true.

don't baby that cavy, the ecotec can take it

try all this and i guarentee way better results i hope i helped.

The times are good and congrats man... I hope i have similar results when I get my exhaust on.

My stock times were 16.287@ 85.529mph, and my 04 'fire is an LSV also...

dude, you need to work on something.... either your launches or your shift points or both.... Mandy (Lamb of Goddess) trapped 88-89 with nothing but an intake (and that's hardly a power-adder) and ran 15.4 her first time out. Of course, she had the benefit of the sage like advice of the FlyinSkwirl and myself, but you should definitely be in the 15's at least, unless you're running at a 1/4 track in denver or something.
