I am sick and tired from this car I am sorry but I am afraid I am going to have to buy a Japanese car for some reason 4 cylinder American cars are not well with me !!
I opened the thermostat just to make sure it's OK after I did that I turned on the car while I was adding water to the coolant anyways after that,I turned off the car put back the thermostat, put anti freeze in it closed it by the way before I did this, the temperature was fine but there was little heat yes I've used stop leak 1 week ago the first few hours the heat was very good and the temperature was fine 2 days later temperature is ok but weak heat there is air but there is little heat so i decided to open this when it's -17 outside and work on it in fact I just got back from out side now I smell something like coolant with COLD air coming out from the vents the temperature went up dramicatly in 1 mins the question is did I blow a head gasket? or is it the coolant that is not reaching the engine for some reason ? should I throw this car in the garbage? it's a 99 sunfire 2.2L standard air intake 171 KM New cluth and tranmission that was replaced 3 months ago. I live in Canada Alberta if anyone is interested in buying the car.
air bubble...jack up the passenger side of the car up....way up...then remove the coolant cap...squeeze the hoses....then add coolant...turn on the car..heat on full blast and let it run..air bubbles should work their way out..
oh and don't use stop leak...some of the "chunky" ones just clog your radiator and heater core (which would cause no heat and engine temp to go up)

Just out of curiosity. Is it a good idea to have the car running while its slanted like that? Wont the oil sloosh to one side, possiby causing an issue with oiling wile at idle?

never had an issue before..iirc the pickup is on the driver side anyway...i am trying to picture it in my head....rough monring

If that doesn't work try changing the heater core. If you're smelling coolant in the car then it's definately your heater core.
You don't have to jack it up at all. There's a black metal tube with a set screw on it, unscrew that screw slightly to burp it.
+1 For the heater core leaking.
If you can smell antifreeze inside the vehicle you need to check the heater core.
I had that happen in my '86 cavalier. For about a week I was wondering why I kept smelling pancake syrup. I'm going to be flushing my '00 this spring so I'll check the stuff mentioned above.
