simple question. on my 2.2 eco theres a little black cylinder with a vacuum hose connected to under the tb. and the precat o2 sensor is hooked up to it and another wire probaly to the computer. its mounted on the front right of the motor and has a green knob on it. i figured id have to move it to route turbo piping. sooooo..... what is it?

u cant really tell but theres a huge aluminum heat sink. . firewall mounted, above a/c canister. lots of bundled wires. lots.
this things mounted by the strut mount. actually i think its for my cruise control now that i look at the wire from it 2 the tb then to the firewall.
im just stumped on all this "modern" stuff. not quite my old 305

nope. that is the evap service port. has nothing to do with your a/c. it has to do with your evaporative emissions system. you'll want to leave that alone like i said. if its tampered with, you wont pass emissions inspection and your car (essentially) becomes unsellable.

like what does the knob do? is it a knob? why is the o2 sensor involved? where does that wire go? why does vacuum need to be detected? what part of the emissions does this effect?
speaking of not being able to sell.... i bought it from a dealership recently and the pcv hose was broken off at the intake. how the #&$% did that pass?

well, in short, since 1996, cars with an obd2 system have put the gas tank under a vacuum at all times while the engine was running. this vacuum draws the evaporating gas fumes into the vapor canister, which are later drawn into the intake manifold to be burnt off. that little knob is actually a cap very similar to those on your a/c lines, but is instead used for when you have an evap system leak to put he system under a very small (read 1 psi) amount of pressure, induce smoke into the system, and then you look for the smoke to see where the leak is.
as for the pcv, it was a dealership. generally, they can just give it a once over and slap a sticker on it.
