i am rebuilding the engine in my 99 pontiac grand am its a 2.4 dohc engine and i have replaced my rings and got my crank in and am now ready to install my pistons my only problem is i dont know which direction the rods connect to the crank the rods were never removed from the pistons.i was told there was a mark on top of the piston or an arrow that is supposed to face the front of the block and there is no such there is also no arrow on my rods or caps either there is an oil spurt hole on one side of my rods. can anyone please tell me which way these are supposed to be installed?
As far as the caps go, I know the cap bearing has to be on a certain way to get oiled correctly...you might have to get your hands on a good old (expensive) GM service manual, or something close. The piston should have a dot, line, or something somewhere on it indicating "forward". As for the rod, I'm not sure. Do you still have an old piston thats connected to a rod you can use as a reference? It's been awhile since I pulled pistons out of an engine, and that was on a Ford.
