I've lurked this forum for some time, and I've developed an interest in actually owning a jbody. My girlfriend owns a 2005 Cavalier coupe and my main concern is actually fitting in the car. I am 6' 3" tall (average build) and my knees hit her dash LOL...her seats are broken (so she says), she's had it in to the dealer for repairs and they never actually do it (either they get tied up with the oil change or they just ignore it all-together). If any of you can give me some input on this situation, it'd be greatly appreciated. I haven't actually gone car-shopping yet so I don't know about other cars; I'm just curious if anyone else has a problem fitting in the jbody. (long distance trips are in question)
I'm after the economy of this car:-) I've tried to read up on the engine (primarily the 2.2 OHV (LN2 I believe)...I found a nice writeup. My sister owns a '99 Sunfire sedan and it's over 200,000mi (original engine, only problems were alternator and head-gasket!!!) With my sister's success I am confident I can keep this car for a long time to come.
The second part of my post deals with the front-door speakers. I love my music and I like to play it loud. Of course, I trust Crutchfield with all of my audio stuff but here's the problem: I want to install a component system (either 5.25" or 6.5") in the front doors, but the website does not say it fits for yrs 2000+. Crutchfield claims that several component systems fit in earlier years of jbody cars; aren't the doors the same size from 1995-2005? Has anyone successfully installed a component system in the doors of a 2000+ Cavalier? (of course someone has LOL, just curious about it...I'd like to have the woofers in the 4x6" speaker area, and I'd do a custom install of the tweeters elsewhere)
That concludes my post for today:-) My last (and maybe my only post here) was about leather seating upgrades in case you were wondering LOL. I have had an interest in these cars for a while as my current car is horrible on gas (though lots of fun). Money is tight and I figure that I can save some money on gas...I make a lot of long distance trips. One of the hardest decisions I have concerning a jbody is getting a coupe or sedan. Hahaha...I like the coupe's sporty appearance, but the sedan is more practical. Anyway, I hope I don't get flamed for asking such questions...I'm not exactly a noOb, but I figured that posting here would serve as a flame suit. Good-day to you all!
Regards,
Jordan
so her seats are broken? well whats wrong with them? they wont go back or what? im 6'3" myself and i fit nice and comfortable in mine
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
The passenger one doesn't move at all...the driver seat has limited movement. I'm glad to hear that, btw:-)
I'm 6 feet tall, weight 170lbs. I have plenty of room, and the seat isnt all the way back.
Also with the seats. So your saying when you lift the lever under the seat, it doesnt slide back and forth on either side of the car?
I would seriously first check to make sure nothing is down there, pop bottles, hair clips, coins. I work as a mechanic and have seen those thing get stuck because something is blocking it.
I just find it very odd, both sides are broken at the same time on a new car.

You will need a set of speaker adapters to mount the components (since the mounts are for a 4x6 and not a 5.25 or 6.5)

Also check to see the stops or whatever they are (they are connected with something like piano wire and a spring) move when you lift the lever, there's one on each side that mates to the notches in the sliders... my Sunfire passenger seat was notorious for having the spring come off, thereby rendering the movement useless.

Thank you so much!! That is exactly what I've been looking for:-) As for my girlfriend's seats, there is absolutely nothing stuck under them...the driver's one is good for her, but the passenger one doesn't move at all and it may be the stops. I know there is a metal rod/slider sticking forward and it cuts into my heel from time to time lol. Thanks much!!!
What I meant was this spring:
Its on the console side of the underside of the passenger seat... it likes to slip off every now and again

Anytime
hey fitting in the driver seat is fine being just over 6 feet the pass side my knees get near yet tilting the seat back a bit lets me fit fine. as far as speakers i have an 04 coupe with sony 300 watt 4x6 speakers fit great and sound great how ever if you want 5.5 or 6.5 speakers with them being round and the 4x6 being oval you will need a adapter set they can be found dirt cheap on ebay and screw in like speakers and then screw the new speakers into the adapters.
