I was just curious, today when I drove on the expressway at around 75 - 80 mph the wind noise was horrible on my 4 dr cavalier. Just wondering if its the same for all of you out there.

if you think thats bad get a vert
I was actually able to quiet mine down a bit with some strategically placed Dynamat. I also added some extra door seals.
i have a 04 cavy and it has 16000 miles on it and its really bad the inside of my windows get all frozn
Alot of times I can fix the wind noise if that is what it really is. Dynamat would help in Road Noise not Wind noise. LOL
If you look at the Fenders and Doors are lined up. If the Fenders are inboard to the front door then wind noise will happen. The same will also happen if the front doors are inboard to the rear doors.
I solved my promblems by fixing them myself by moving my fenders slightly outboard of the front door. When I say slightly I mean slightly, like 0.5 mills. You can also do the same with the doors by changing the stricker location.
Also on 2 doors you will have idiots even yourself hanging on the doors causing it to warp/bend out of alignment. Most of the time I can do it by blocking it.( puttng a piece of wood between the door and door frame and close it enough to where I can bend the door back into shape)
When I first seen the blocking method done at work. I was like WTF at they doing and I was like I couldn't do that to a car door. But one time I had to do that for a week at work and now it is nothing to me now.
Actually I just bought an '06 Trailblazer yesterday and the driver side fender was slightly inboard to the door and My dad and I pulled the fender out to make it even.
But hey you might want to check into that.
I want to know why this is in Newbies?
I looked in General where I know it shouldn't have been at. But then I looked in Maitnence then Exterior. But Newbies. I didn't know this would be a Newbie thing.
Thanks for the replies!! yeah i don't know why they moved it to newbies! I post it the other day in general and today when I went to check on it, it wasn't there anymore. Ne ways, that is great info Nfamousz24!! but one thing how do you get the fender to be outboard to the door? is there an adjusting screw or just good old "pulling-hard" method. Maybe using washers on the screws!!!

My car give wind noise a whole new meaning, 89 z24 that stock everywhere other than the motor. I got something wrong with my passenger side door too. Its only used once in a blue moon but my wife was bitchin the other day thats its hard as hell to open. I checked it out and it felt like it was rubbing somewhere. I wasnt like that 6 months ago either. This care got more probs than I know what to do with. Mainly lil ods and ends @!#$, somethings rubbing in the drivers side wheelwell, fuk if I know what.
But anyways I'm gonna try the blocking it thing on the door. Its not very often the door is used but I'm tired of people bitchin when it is used.
Thanks for the blocking tip NfamousZ24.
I only got a two door , but i havnt got any noise.
Juan There should be a bolt that you can lossen behind the fender that you can get to from the wheel well after you take the wheel well liner. The Bolt should be located somewhere between the 2 hinges of the door maybe a little higher. I don't remember where exactly.
The Fenders of the 2000+ J's (don't know if any sooner)are just basically just the skin that can be easily moved. There are 3 bolts on top just under the hood. 1 behind the turnsignal. I think that there is one at the top of the fender acessible if you open the front door. The 1 I mentioned before under the fender. and 1 at the bottom of the fender near the door.
I don't remeber all of it. It has been a couple of years since I put my Z3's on. Then you got the fact that I might be thinking of the Trailblazers Fenders that I used to adjust all of the time. LOL
Tech Overload With yours I don't know how the Hinges are on your door. But if there is an alinment promblem at all you might want to check your Hinge Pins( I think that is what the earlier J's had. You might need to replace some of that stuff. Then after that you might need to use the blocking method. I know I had to do that on my Wifes '86 Jimmy.
step 1 max, shirk you photo, it's way way way to big
yes it's a real shock but a econo-box, has a wind noise, remeber it's a cavy not a caddy
Thanks a lot NfamousZ24, I'll try it as soon as ig gets a little warm outside.
That's true Neal. It is still a cavalier but, if we can make it better than stock, then why not go for it!

my 99 sunfire had a real bad howl when the car went over 100kph. ir if the wind speed and the car speed added up to be greater then that. it was so load that my wife and i could not talk. i took it to crystal glass and they put some black window goop ( tecnical term ) and it stopped the noise.

it might be the wheel gap or Eminem's cousin standing next to it to make it stand out but maybe if you shrink down the sig it won't stand out sooo much
Na..... No Relation To Eminem......
I dont even like Eminem>>>>
but anyways what is wind noise exactly....is it a high pitch squill when you drive fast???
like in old Audi's???
no man, cool that you took it in stride, but the wind noise he is referring to is the sound you may or may not hear of the wind as it wraps around your car when you're driving. if you have ever sat inside a house and heard the wind howling outside, take that and multiply it a few times, and imagine hearing that everywhere you go, it gets annoying quick.
and if you don't have any wind noise you definitely have a wednesday car, which is a good thing.
oh...ok....na i dont have any then...
yeah i gota 2 dr cav too and i dont have major wind noise either...i would be annoyed if it did...but then id just crank up the tunes and wouldnt be able to hear it and then id be happy

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
LOL
i've got the wind noise...and the random rattles in the car. it's annoying.
I don't have wind noise, but it's a econo car... what do you expect?
