My Girlfriends sister will be lookin or close to purchasing a 04 Sunfire.. I heard previous model had issue with head gasket but according to the salesman, they were corrected in 03. I just would like the guru's input as to wat common issue or preventative things there are for the Sunfire?

I've never heard of head gasket issues...I have an 03 sunfire and no such problems. Actually, I have an upgraded head so I had to get another headgasket but it's just another stock one as well.
Also, I doubt GM would be like "woah woah, get some new head gaskets on these cars, it's a big issue". GM could give a rats ass. Also, since I do have an 03 Sunfire, I get all my Recalls in the mail...never once got anything stating about changing the headgasket.
That salesman more than likely was talking out his ass. When you asked him about if there was a headgasket problem, his cop out was "oh yeah well they fixed that problem last year"...
Tell her to buy the Sunfire and enjoy it.

probally thinking of the 2.4's they were known to do that but 03 was ecotec only so no 2.4
I've never heard of head gasket issues on the LD9, I've got a 1998 Sunfire GT and have never had any head gasket issues.
Like NJHK said the Eco really has no known issues as of yet.

Front brake rotors - to prevent warping make sure the lug nuts are torqued to spec. Also do not spray them when they are hot.

Thats true, thanx for the reminder.. I think front rotor warpin issue seems to be a common issue with MOST GM vehicle.
So there's no common issue for it?

the head gasket issue was a concern with the twin cam and even more so with the quad engine...seemed like the stock one just plain sucked...i dont think ive ever heard of this problem from an 03/eco
