hey just curious as to what the first mods some of the big time j-body members did when they started out pls no altezas or airplane wings tht will keep me from flying away but seriously i'm curious as to wut the first modd is and what is recommended to do as the first mod....
Stephen(99' Sunfire 5spd.)
1st mod I did was just seat covers...was needed because my seat was wet from a sunroof leak...then it turned into an obsession
Clear corners then rims. After that is all history.
depends on what you like. are you going to be going for performance or looks? figure that out, then look into what other people have done to their cars and see what you like. then decide for yourself what comes first, second, third, etc.
im curious as to what i should do first
oh for sure i want performance so any ideas how to get this car ready for some boost or something....
I did audio mods and clear corners...
Nothing expensive and nothing rice...
Next, HP AND TQ
After...
well, let me see...
more HP AND TQ
'97 Chevy Cavalier
I'm officially an Ecotec whore!
see those are the numbers i wanna see climb on my cars dyno sheets concidering this car has 115 stock hp i hope to get up round the 300-450hp i'm trying to save for some boost but i have no idea as to how much it costs....
If your planning on boost don't waste your money on things you'll have to change...
First real modification I did was an intake upgrade.

Intakes can be bought for prices starting around $30 on Ebay...

My first mod was a B&M Short shifter

...go with an intake. and if you are wondering how much boosting your cavi to 350-400whp is gonna cost...quite, quite a bit. several thousand. the turbo kit alone with the fuel and tuning mods is gonna cost a few grand, plus installation...plus an intercooler and piping, plus installation (assuming the kit didnt come with one), plus the other supporting mods you'll need to put down that kinda power (exhaust upgrade, suspension/tire upgrade, stronger clutch, lsd (since you have a 2.2, the diff is garbage, i know, just replaced my spider gears..
, fuel controller, and tuning session. like i said, several thousand dollars.
not trying to discourage you, just wanna see how much you wanna spend, and if you really want a street car to put down that kinda power. check out my profile, we have basically the same motor, and i have only bolt ons (though quite a few of em), and already, my car isnt too much fun in heavy traffic. my advice would be to find a good idea of what you wanna do with your car, and make it happen, slowly but surely. good luck, my friend.
...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.
If you wan't to buy an intake check different brands AND price, I paid too much for mine cause it have an AEM sticker on it, but you can get good ones for cheaper and it will be the same things. You can also get a short shifter, motor mounts, good tires, rims, suspension cause the stock ones really suck and is not safe if you build up your car. Stuff like that, those are things that you won't need to change once you're boosted (except intake) Just some ideas....
I bought an intake. Seems to be a good 1st mod.

i started with suspension. koni reds, eibach sportlines, strut tower bars front and back

All intakes generally work the same and perform the same. If you read around and you see WAI (Warm Air Intakes) or CAI (Cold Air Intakes), that's how some people categorize them and alot of times try and use the "Cold Air" phrase to make you think that it's much more superior than a "Warm Air" intake.
A Warm air intake generally has a short piping with a filter at the end of it and the filter is inside the engine bay. People generally think that you're sucking in nothing but warm or hot air from your engine, which isn't true. When you're vehicle is moving, there is much more airflow circulating than of course when you are parked.
A Cold air intake generally has a long piping that leads down to where your resonators were and your filter is on the outside of your engine bay. Now because it is outside of the engine bay doesn't necessarily mean you're getting much cooler air. If it is warm outside, you're pulling in the same temperature as it is outside. Also, being that the piping is longer, air has a longer path to travel to enter your throttle body.
Most companies just make a piping, stick an K & N filter on the end of it and put their company name on it. I personally like Weapon-Rs intake system, if you wanna check them out go to
