Me and 2 other friends where messin around goin to skool and racing and playin with each other ( i know it was stupid to do this shiz but it was fun at the time). At one point my 2 friends blew pass a car and i didn't have time to get around the car before a truck came the other way so they lost me. So after gettin around the car i floored it to get up with them. maybe after a mile or so i got up to them and i was moving and a nice straigh line of road with no hills or turns so i flew out around both of them before they knew i was there. I looked down to see how fast i was goin and it said 97 98 at 4 1/2g and thats all the further it went, so basicly it was my top speed. Is this a normal top speed for a 98 Sunfire with the 3 spd. autotragic 2.2 completely stock?
Your limiter is at 108, it might have felt like it wasn't going any further because 3-speeds are extremely slow on the top end.

Yeah, unfortunately, you're car is that slow

Having a car that can maybe barely get over 100 sucks doesn't it?
PS. Driving that fast in a j-body is not advised, even on a race track. Suspension and brakes = teh suck.
i never had a probably hitting the speed gov. in my z24 back when i was stupid and gas was cheap. now she doesn't go over 70.
ronus' 2200 never had a problem either. we went from riverside to orange county (about an hour drive normally) side by side with our cruise set at 107...it was fun. stupid...but fun. oh...it was late at night so we had no traffic either. that made it easier.
GO PATS!!!

Your comparing different cars with different motors and trannies...
His biggest disadvantage is the 3-speed automatic...his gearing is very long which is not a good thing...

i have a 2200 3 speed and can get to 108
Yea i got it to bounce off the speed limiter today goin to Tech skool from Home skool today.
i said i can do, i dont reccomend it
I thought that gm vehicles were set at like 106 or so my old grand am was but my cavalier also says like 108 when it bounces
it doesnt really bounce, it just closes the throttle for like5 secs which causes me to slow down to about 95
same thing i just call it a bounce
I can hit 108 in 4th gear

Actually different models of the cavalier/sunfire based on motor and transmission have different max limits.
For example an ECOTEC manual can go 108 where a 2200 manual can only go 103. I beleive the 3 speed auto with the 2.2 OHV LN2 only caps at 98-100 but I could be wrong. Would have to go back to that year to see what GM rated it at.
