I know this is a stupid question. but what kind of oil would be best for an 02 sunfire with 70,800 miles. thanks.
Synthetic, of what was already the recommended viscosity.

Valvoline MAXLife for that many miles.
I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but at least I'm a pretty color
Agreed with JD, I've been using that in a 5w30, and its served me well. I have approx. 159k miles on my cavy. So far so good.

i've been using mobil one synthetic 10w30 in my '02 sunfire. just be aware that if you use a synthetic it runs alot cleaner than nonsynthetic and if there are any leaks, it will find them.
wuts the different betwen 5-10w.. i see alot of people use 10 but the cap says 5w.. im in the desert which would be best for me? ive been using castol high mileage 5w-30. thanx

not sure myself.
i think it has something to do with the outside temp. like one is better for hot climates, the other is better for cold. but im not sure
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
The difference is the viscosity coefficient, more the number is high more thicker the oil is. The viscosity of the oil are based on the viscosity at 100 degree celcius. The W (winter) mean that it's based at 0 degree celcius. (Part that I'm 100% sure about it)
The first number such 5 is the viscosity at normal running temp and the 30 at cold temp. With a brand new engine you are better to use the recommended oil, cause the engine parts are designed so the oil flow well and do its job correctly. When the engine is old you can use thicker oil so it will fill the space of the used parts. (Here I'm not so sure about it, so correct me if I'm wrong, Thanks)
Not trying to be a$$ but the 5 in 5w-30 is the at start up or cold temps and the the 30 is for normal running temp... i.e if youy put 10-30 it is going to be thicker on start up... if you look in the book it says to use 5-30 all year around but you can put 10-30 in in it when temps are above 0...
You asked for the best oil. That would be synthetic. I run 5-30 Mobil 1 EP in my 2000 2.4L.
