Lookin for HP and TOR tips
Tuesday, July 26, 2005 11:13 AM
I'm looking for tips on how to increase horsepower and torque on my 2.2 99' sunfire...

So far I've got an Intake, Intense racing chip, and a universal Apexi N1 muffler....but thats it.

So please hook me up with some useful tips on where to go next and other parts that i could use.

take that "intense racing chip" out and throw it away....you can't chip an obd2 j body

some other fun parts would be a header, short throw shifter, if you have a stick, or a b&M shiftplus if your auto, some good springs and new struts, rims and tires, tranny and motor mounts are nice too........if you really want to have fun, get a nx EFI stage one wet nitrous kit

1) get rid of that chip. it does nothing
2)you can get engine mounts
3)bigger TB
4)header, high flo cat, full exhaust
5)crank pulley
6)and please complete your profile with your car info. so we can help you out in the future with your questions

and a shiftplus or autotransinterceptor wont work on your car since its probaly a 3 speed. or have a 5 speed manual

Turbnado and that Intense Racing Performance Chip are junk. Turbnado, Tornado Air or anything along those lines can actually decrease your HP.

Well basically our OBD2 systems aren't "chippable" - which means that the system cannot be tuned or tweaked by a plug-in chip.

So the chip that you bough off eBay (or where ever you may have got it) not only doesn't help, but it can make your engine run worse. Reason being that the only thing its doing is tricking the computer into richening up the air/fuel mixture.

A very rich mixture will cause the engine to bog, cause carbon buildup, waste fuel, and decrease horsepower.

Now you tell us...do you still want to keep your chip??

they make your engine run less effiecently, end of story.

Its probably just a 10 cent resistor you could have gotten at radioshack or likewise anyways.

Pacesetter makes a good header. In my opinion i would go with the ceramic coat otherwise they will rust up pretty quick (know from experience).

No its an actual chip, we cracked it open and looked at it, it looked like it actually might do something so me and my friend bought one, i havent noticed a whole lot of a difference, but his car seemed like it had a hell of a better jump off the line.

thanks guys and keep the suggestions coming......

so far i've taken the pacesetter, and turbo ideas down.

what kind of a turbo should i get though? an specific brands?

also, i want to get coilovers, would you guys trust the coilovers off of ebay? or do you think they're junk too...

They've gotten better over the past couple years at disguising those things but make no mistake... it's still just a resistor in the end and doing more harm than good.

It's in line with your IAT sensor, right? heh.

And go read up in the suspension forum. Do NOT buy coilover sleeve kits not made by either Ground Control or RK Sport.

How much do those Cavalier Connection turbos go for?

I found a turbo in the classifieds for $125 that looked fairly good
