I see a lot of people talking about getting stuff like $15% tint, etc ... does anyone know if this site is correct?
http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/PA/ I mean 70% tint that must be wrong cuz I'm pretty sure I've seen SUV's come standard with much darker. Whats the worst that could happen if you get pulled over with say 25% tint? thnx
in pa you are not aloud to have any tint at all on the car unless it came that way.
you will get fined for around $100 and have to have it taken off. +the cost of tinting it in the first place.
My buddy paid $100 to get his car tinted, and got a busted. so that is over $200 with the ticket. But the cops told him it is ok if your drive an SUV or truck....(Bunch of crap)
BTW. I live in PA.

Most of the local cops north of Pittsburgh either tell you to pull it off or they will... If you let them, most will razor it and peel it off in parts to make sure you have to buy new. if they catch you again, they start fining you. I've also heard about variations in the law about "no tint unless it's factory" and what is on the site.
The Truck/SUV problem, I believe, is covered in Chassis weight rating...

thnx for the info. Man, thats very aggrivating. 70% is rediculous
I can't believe they let SUV's have tint and not us
that's awful they have such harsh tint laws. Tint is actually helpful, I just dont see why they only allow 70.

Hey,
They still have to buy Liquor in "State Stores" and Beer in Distributors (Not allowed to sell on Sunday unless you buy from a restaurant) In August, the laws will change and you will be able to buy beer on Sundays at distributors.
Thats right, no booze at the local Grocery or drug stores.
That's why I live right on the border in Ohio.....

i got busted with 15% on all my windows, but they didn't make me take it off, they just fined me $75.00, but i'm not haveing it removed, they can kiss my a$$
i live 15 mins north of allentown....20% tint, never been pulled over for it
Unless a law was passed recently which I haven't read about, you are allowed to have any tint you want in Pennsylvania if you can see in through either the front door windows or the winshield.

§ 4524. Windshield obstructions and wipers.
(a) Obstruction on front windshield.--No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sign, poster or other nontransparent material upon the front windshield which materially obstructs, obscures or impairs the driver's clear view of the highway or any intersecting highway except an inspection certificate, sticker identification sign on a mass transit vehicle or other officially required sticker and no person shall drive any motor vehicle with any ice or snow on the front windshield which materially obstructs, obscures or impairs the driver's clear view of the highway or any intersecting highway.
(b) Obstruction on side and rear windows.--No person shall drive a motor vehicle with any sign, poster or other nontransparent material, including ice or snow, upon the side wings or side or rear windows of the vehicle which materially obstructs, obscures or impairs the driver's clear view of the highway or any intersecting highway. The placement of a registration permit upon the side or rear window of a vehicle shall not be considered a material obstruction.
(c) Other obstruction.--No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any object or material hung from the inside rearview mirror or otherwise hung, placed or attached in such a position as to materially obstruct, obscure or impair the driver's vision through the front windshield or any manner as to constitute a safety hazard.
(d) Windshield wiper systems.--The windshield on every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle or special mobile equipment shall be equipped with a wiper system capable of cleaning rain, snow or other moisture from the windshield, and so constructed as to be controlled or operated by the driver of the vehicle.
(e) Sun screening and other materials prohibited.--
No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sun screening device or other material which does not permit a person to see or view the inside of the vehicle through the windshield, side wing or side window of the vehicle.
This subsection does not apply to:
A vehicle which is equipped with tinted windows of the type and specification that were installed by the manufacturer of the vehicle or to any hearse, ambulance, government vehicle or any other vehicle for which a currently valid certificate of exemption has been issued in accordance with regulations adopted by the department.
A vehicle which is equipped with tinted windows, sun screening devices or other materials which comply with all applicable Federal regulations and for which a currently valid certificate of exemption for medical reasons has been issued in accordance with regulations adopted by the department.
A certificate of exemption shall be issued by the department for a vehicle which is:
Registered in this Commonwealth on the effective date of this subsection and is equipped with a sun screening device or other material prohibited under paragraph (1) on the effective date.
Equipped with tinted windows, sun screening devices or other materials for a physical condition that makes it necessary to equip the motor vehicle with sun screening material which would be of a light transmittance or luminous reflectance in violation of this section.
(A) A certificate of exemption for medical reasons shall be issued only if the owner or registrant of the vehicle, or a person residing in the household of the owner or registrant who regularly drives or is driven in the vehicle, suffers from a physical condition determined by the department, in consultation with the Medical Advisory Board, to justify the exemption.
(B) Any person requesting an exemption for medical reasons shall have his physical condition certified to the department by a licensed physician or optometrist.
A certificate of exemption issued under this subsection shall be carried in the vehicle and displayed on request of a police officer.
Upon the sale or transfer of the vehicle to any person who does not qualify under paragraph (2)(ii), the exemption shall be null and void. Prior to the sale or transfer of an exempt vehicle, it shall be the sole responsibility of the owner or seller of a formerly exempt vehicle to remove all sun screening or other materials from the vehicle. At the time of the sale or transfer of a formerly exempt vehicle, the owner shall remove and destroy the certificate of exemption for physical reasons and provide the purchaser with a notarized statement setting forth the name and address of the owner or seller, the vehicle identification number, year and model, and the business entity and process used to remove the sun screening or other material.
(f) Exception.--This section does not apply to mobile recording equipment installed in a vehicle exclusively used for official police purposes.

It doesn't matter what something "came with". If it's illegal, it's illegal. Car makers (I would assume) build to Federal Motor Vehicle standards. But that doesn't mean ANYTHING. The states make up their own vehicle code (pesky 10th Amendment). The states just generally don't care to enforce the codes.
Please, for the love of god people don't post misinformation. Read the law, then post, not what my second cousins former roommate knew a cop who told him...
Oh, and a search would of answered your question, I answered this same question just a few week ago.
PA tint laws
i have 15% all around and a windshield strip at 15%. some cops will just be @!#$s, but if you get pulled over for it "too dark" i would just fight it . but i wouldnt go with, say, 5 or 10% on your front two, cause then youre really just asking for trouble.
It's the car right?.....Chicks dig the car.
I have 20% tint on my car- I live in ridley park, about 10 mins from Media.
About 2 months ago, a cop was waiting @ the stop sign right around the corner from my house... I saw him jump behind me, but he didn't get to pull me over before I got in my driveway- I acted like I never even seen him, and started walking to my door...
He stopped @ the end of my driveway- and started asking me about my car etc etc.. He asked If i wanted to pull the tint off, or recieve a ticket- he said 105 bucks a window.. *BS* Anyway, I told him I was not going to remove my tint. Since he never technically pulled me over, I dont think he couldn't write me a ticket- I dunno... He said that if he runs into me again, he will give me the ticket.. I asked him if he was going to sit down the end of the street and wait for me to come by..? He laughed, said I had balls for asking him that... I was very polite to the officer, let him know I wasn't some kinda drug dealer, and I didnt even drive the car that often.
I havn't had any trouble since, but I do not drive around with my windows up.. When I go through any towns around here that I know might give me trouble- I roll them down... Media, brookhaven, ridley park, morton, prospect park etc..
Ive had my tint on for over 3 years.

wrong. when i was in hs my senior year i took a bs class and we had a police officer (from brookhaven, worst town outside of philly to be pulled over in) and he was talking about tint laws. the 70% is correct. meaning that 70% of the light has to shine through the windows. depending on how much of a dick the cop wants to be, he can ticket you left and right for tint. As for factory cars, whatever came on the car from factory is legal. now this is only for cars. the laws are different for trucks and suvs

Not to be a jerk, but did you read the law I posted? There is no mention of 70%. There may be mention of 70% in the New Table X (I don't remember and I don't feel like looking it up, but if you want to, it is in the link I posted), but New Table X isn't law. There was also mention of 70% in a 2004 House bill, but last I heard that died in committee. If I am wrong, cite a LAW that states 70%.

Again did you read my post at all. Just because something comes from the factory doesn't make it legal.
I just don't get the logic they use man ... what possible reason could it be legal for an SUV and not a normal car, lol ... I bet whoever passed that law drives an SUV and just made the exemption for himself. Some of these cops should find something better to do then harrass the people they are supposed to be protecting for trying to shade their car's interior from the sun. I mean seriously, it's pathetic.
A friend of mine told me they made the 70% law so the cops can see what the occupants in the car are doing for safety reasons ... so what, SUV drivers are all angels so they get an exemption?
To the guys that got busted for their tint by the cops, what did it say on the ticket? Did any of you try to fight it later? thnx again for all the help. I guess I'll hold off on tinting my windows for a while till I get a better idea of what the cops are like in the area
that sux in california u pay 10.00 and have it removed or find a nice cop to sign them off and send in 10.00..lol ive had limo tint all the way around for over a year
i have 2.5% tint one all my windows exp the front i couldn't see @!#$ at night so i took it all off but no cop said any thing to me about them but from what the cops say around where i live u can't have tint unless its stock
i have 20% on my car, never had any problems. a few of my friends have gotten tickets for tint, but that was after being pulled over for speeding, light out, etc... i havent heard of anyone being pulled over just for tint untill i read some of the above stories. by the way, i live in maryland, the law is like 45%.
well i lived in lancaster for like 10 years and i have always had my windows tinted and never had a prob. now i live in n.h. and u cant have any tint up here. the tint rules are dumb,
but from what i remember p.a. was 1 of the only states that it was allowed...
It depends on the cops too. I had a 94 Cavy with Limo tint on the rear and side rears. I've got tickets in that car and no time that I was pulled over they mentioned anything about my tint. From what I've seen you're usually safe unless you have your passenger and driver door windows tinted.
i had my windows checked by a cop my neighbor was friends with and there at 27%. he said you can have 50 %. he also said they dont care about the back windows and is mainly the front windows they care about. they cant check the back windows anyway if you have a 2 door
i forgot to mention that i was from pa
cool ... how did he check them?
they have some thing that they put on the wondow and it reads it. they can only check it if your window goes down.
so unhook your window motors, or take off your door crank
