Drivers Mirror
Sunday, July 03, 2005 1:19 PM
Trying to change the drivers side outside mirror, it is a manual mirror with the control knob that goes into the car.
The problem I have is trying to get the cables disconnected from the knob assembly. I need some tips on how to remove the cables.

Nobody has ever changed the drivers side mirror?!!?!?

are you trying to change just the mirror itself or the whole mirror and housing? changing the whole assembly would be so much easier than trying to take apart the thing and put it back together.

Trying to change the entire mirror, but I cannot remove the control rod/handle from the inside door trim, thus the mirror and the rod are still attached. I'm not sure as how to disengage the rod/handle from the mirror. It is attached with 3 cables.

Thanks!

This is all from the interior part of the car

- You take off that triangle trim peice... it's held on with 1 phillips head screw
- then you take out the foam behind that
- Behind that there will be 3 9mm nuts you have to take out

The whole mirror should just come off...

What are you trying to do? pull the mirror apart from the outside?

The mirror is a manual mirror with an adjustment knob/rod that is inside the car that is used to adjust the mirror. The mirror glass is attached to the knob/rod with 3 steel cables that are used to move the mirror. I am trying to remove the mirror from the inside. The trangle trim piece, foam and 3 nuts have been removed. The only thing holding the mirror together now are the 3 cables attached to the adjustment knob/rod.

if you have the interior panel, foam and 3 nuts off, the mirror should just pull out. i don't understand the complication.

the adjustment rod just comes out with the whole assembly

The adjustment rod does not come out with the assembly as the rod/knob is attached to the inside triange trim piece inside the car.
I need to know how to remove the knob/rod assembly from this trim piece, as I cannot remove the mirror assembly since it is still attached to the inside trim piece.
This is on a 1992 Cavalier drivers mirror.

you dont need to rmoeve the adjustment rod, do as what was already said, you take the triangle piece off from inside, remove the foam, undo the bolts and everything just pulls right out, i just did this yesterday when i switched to m3 mirrors

Mine rattles around a bit, does it need to be changed or can I just tighten a cable?

I had the same problem with mine....the rod twists(I think away from you) and it pulls out. I had such a hard time with it, then I tried it later and it just fell out. GOOD LUCK!!!

So do I push and twist the rod and it should just pull out towards me?
