Noob Here

hey guys ive been reading your posts for a while now and have been absorbing all this little information here and there to get ideas for my 00 cavy. I decided it was time to join the club and actually post something for once, so HEY to everyone of j-bod! I have been thinking about it for a while now, and decided i was going to start with engine work first. Get that done, and then move onto another area, the one problem is, i honestly do not know where to start, I DO want to get a cold air intake, but in the long run is it honestly worth getting? Also, after i purchased one and installed it, where could i move onto to improve next? thanks guys...

Well, you got your basics... I/E/H Intake, Exhaust, and Headers. Get a decent exhaust, (you know, one that allows good air flow without alot of back flow) get new headers, and down pipe. Not only will this look AND sound good, but will also give you a few extra HP.

Plus you got your distributor and cap, Hotwire spark plug wires, hotter plugs, cooler thermostat, fuel rail and pressure regulator, maybe a new throttle body.

^^^^ its HEADER not headers....theres only one of them

intake is usually what people go for first
then exhaust ( full exhaust = header - downpipe should come with header - cat - resonator - muffler......2.25" is recomended for N/A applications and 2.5" to 3" for forced induction)
after that id probably get to work on your suspension
then engine internals

first Scott fill out your profile. you said you have a 00 cav. thats good but what engine?
if you have a 2.4 then you wont need distributor and cap, Hotwire spark plug wires since the 2.4 dont have those. hotter plugs??? just stick with your stock AC delco ones. but if you go nitrous go with a step or 2 colder plugs. like the NGK TR6 plugs.
a fuel rail and pressure regulator wont really do much. feul rail is really only for looks. a pressure regulator wont help either. dumping more feul into the engine wont give you more power. unless you are boosted.
an intake is where most people start with.. then you can with a HEADER, high flow cat, resonator, 2.25 inch cat back exhaust. 2.5 to 3 inch for boosted cars. larger Throttle body, engne mounts. then go with suspension. but really its up to you. its your car and money

Thanks for the imput guys, i filled out my profile now, and to answer your question about the engine.. its just a stock 2.2 I have been saving up for a bit now to get a short ram intake, ( i dont really wanna call it "cold air", for certain reasons. Now about a header, if i was eventually going to do forced induction/turbo, then wouldnt that header be taken out anyways? Thats why im kind of "iffy" on a header right now. Basically I want to do a step by step process, and then move onto a different thing.

if you have SERIOUS plans on FI then dont get the header cause it will just get taken off the turbo

but most people say there gonna go FI and then never do it
