Z'sZ 2011 build thread...(figured why not follow the trend)
Friday, April 29, 2011 4:46 PM
I have a lot of plans this year for both the Z and the DDvert.

Here are a few pics of Some goodies I picked up from the machine shop today.

These are my modified cam towers to clear my W41 cams(DDvert engine) I have some high lift LD9 springs so no need for 35mm lifters. This route cost me $50.

Got some goodies for the Z's engine too

Also the Z got big brakes this year

Im still figuring out some smaller but better brakes for the DDvert and rears for both cars. Lots more to come over the next few months.

Haha oh yes the Tein ss's are probably the best mod I have put on the car. Idk why I forgot to mention those lol. The put AGX's and Prokits to shame! The valve springs are the ones from Kris Blooms old engine I bought years ago. Not sure of the exact specs but they handled the custom cams that Old man gary is running in his car now.

I like what you did with the cam tower. That looks a lot better than what I did with a dremel

Honestly its a piece of crap, im totally convinced the person before me used it as a beater or it was living in a junkyard. The interior is trashed, the paint is peeling, and there are more little dents and dings than I can count. There reasons are why its my daily driver and not the fun/nice car. I do intend on replacing the interior and fixing the exterior in time. However the Z is my main priority as far as cosmetics go right now.

YES! I love what my machinist did. I was going to dremel it but he did that for an awesome price and saved me plenty of hassle. Im pretty confident I would have slipped multiple times and scarred up the lifter bores.

Yeah everytime I got to the junkyard I'm on the lookout for a red one. I would like to put on some wheels n drop it.

It only took me like 20 minutes to get a HO cam to spin in a 2.4 housing. But i like what the man did. The guy that did mine tried something like this and took some of the cam journals away, after he messed up a lifter bore up. i say nope, try again and i'll clearance the cam myself. Also what throttle body is that?

That throttle body is a 70mm throttle body from a vortec 4.3. All the sensors and the throttle linkage appear to be plug and play.

Did you remove the deflector from the back of the throttle plate yet?

No not yet, I have heard mixed opinions about that. Remove it for top end or keep it on to help prevent bogging on low end.

Mine still has it on, but I have debated removing it.

I might just take it off and see what happens. At worst if it acts bogged down there are always a ton of those at my local pick n pull to get another.

4.3, 5.0, and 5.7 are all the same i believe.

Re: Z'sZ 2011 build thread...(figured why not follow the trend)
Saturday, April 30, 2011 5:45 PM
Yes I agree, any of the vortec 4.3, 5.0, and 5.7 are the same throttle body.
