As some of you know, last spring the transmission went on the sedan and I decided to store it until I had enough money to fix it. Well I ignored it all summer/fall because I was busy with college and not even home to work on it. I got the Saab Turbo setup back, bought a transmission with 40,000 miles on it, and a few more things. I've been doing all the work on the car solo, except for the help from a friend that does powder coating, and my girlfriend to hand me tools haha!
I decided to switch out the Block off Plate on the turbo for a Mopar BOV.
This is how it looked last summer:
And Now:
Picked up the transmission with my Cobalt in Indianapolis:
Turbo w/ Mopar Plate:
ACT 6 Puck:
Control Arms with new paint, will have prothane bushings in them as soon as they arrive:
Valve Cover Powder Coated Black:
I'll add more as I get more parts, and such...
I did run into a few problems so far though, I need to redo the intercooler piping, and the Downpipe cracked out, not sure if it was like that, or the cold got to it and split it.
I will post questions here as I go if I need more help.
Looks nice man. That sucks about the downpipe
Thanks!
Does anyone know (in the picture of the new trans) if the dent on the washer where the axle goes, will that affect anything. The scrap yard i got it from must have pried against that, there is no other damage to seals or anything though.
You can replace that seal. Id say it wouldnt leak tho.
Can that seal be replaced without taking the trans apart, which i doubt...?
I honestly think it is going to be fine, just a small dent from them prying the axle out
It'll pop out just fine. Get new seals for both axles. Part number 3543.

How do I go about doing so? Just pry them out with a screwdriver and set the new ones in? I've never played around with a transmission before...
damn that sucks on the down pipe. i thought it sounded like a leak. if i would of known i would of have welded it up. glad to see progress.
Pop the old one out with a screw driver the new one is a pita to do the first time. I bought a small 4x4 hub socket and cut the fingers off of it and tge seal fits perfectly in it makes installing much easier. I would buy a extra seal just incase I screwed a few up my first time trying it.
Just playing it safe I will probably replace those seals now.
Jason, don't worry about the pipe, I have a welder I can take care of it with, then I plan on heat wrapping it.
I am also going to redo the intercooler piping I think, where can I get some decently priced mandrel bends/kits?
I found the seals part # from a friend that works at a GM dealership: 97029260
Sounds right isn't it? Will that come with the part that is bent, because it looks like it just comes with the seal part
Here is the 4x4 spindle socket I used. You see it has 4 fingers on it all we did was grind them off and it was the same size as the out side of the seal. Really helps with the install.

That metal piece is part of the seal, only way you can buy it. Super easy to replace. Some good looking progress man

Could you post where you got the 4x4 socket at? maybe harbor freight?
Try PVC pipe, i think 2" is big enough. That's what I did and it worked awesome!
Project Resurrection is in full swing!
I got the 4x4 socket at advance. It's the smallest they have.
Some more updates, lost ambition to work on it lately...but i'm getting back at it.
New Ball Joints and bushings are in and installed:
Can't get the transmission in by myself, so waiting for my brother to get here Friday then it should be in and project should come together pretty quickly.
Bah! I've put my tranny in myself numerous times! Just need to slide under the car, have it up on your chest, and bench press!
Also, if you haven't done it already, put the seals in before you put the tranny in. Much easier that way.

I already got the seals in before, they were a pita!
I will try to get the transmission in again tomorrow, I'm a little guy so it's pretty tough to do. Plus I have the car at the bare minimal to slip the transmission out.
Lean over the car and lift that bitc* into place lol
Looks awesome! Keep the progress going bro!
How about a stupid question.
How do I know what gear the trans is in? And same goes for the shift cables...? I don't want to start the car, let off the clutch, and launch it.
Just move the arms around you'll no when its in neutral. Besides if you just connect the cables you'll know what gear its in the cables have free movement when not connected to the trans.
