...Long story short...My '96 sunfire ( I know, I have to do a sig change ) ..got sold in april..really kicking myself for even selling it but guess it was a good thing....Here is the car I'm picking up next week or 2.......
It's a '97, 2.4 liter, auto ( damnit ! ), obviously a 'vert.....body is straight and has never been in a wreck as far as I can tell...Interior is dirty but in good shape...top around the back window is kinda iffy but does not leak.....
....Plans are :
Exterior : wheels and suspension work, brake upgrade, another evil eye hood, GT front bumper, maybe a tail swap, top replacement to black, remove the wing
Interior: Swap center console, and not sure what else besides audio
Engine and Drivetrain: maybe a 5 speed conversion ( still up in the air ), add ons like cold air and ignition work...
Not sure what else I will do as of yet..Still in the thought phase. Welcoming ideas and suggestions....I will post up when I get her home and cleaned up and progress...I am still looking for another J coupe for a project or as a daily to make this a project....

nice find, what are you giving for it?
Nice! I want a J-vert! My first car was almost a red Sunbird with a white top.. so that color combo always reminds me of that car. It was mint, but it was auto... so I bought a lifted pickup instead. lol.
...Sundown:...It is a factory top...Seen the pictures of the guy picking it up from the dealer new....I'll be the second owner
...spencer :..looks like I'll be forking out $ 1600 for it but I'm getting some other stuff for the kids ( outside toys ) free ...alot of them..so it evens out
....Miss Jazer:..We had one of those for sale out here too recently but I passed it up because there was about 20 pounds of filler along the rockers... I did think about maybe repainting but it all depends on how she shines up afterward....

nice pick up. now check out the 3rd gen forum for a sticky for vert owners and the maintenance forum for posts by razzmatazz on how to replace just the rear glass (as i see you already saw my full top howto)
good luck with it!
welcome to the droptop club.! best of luck. and as tabs said, make sure you check out those convertible info we have floating around.
oh yeah..iv'e been all over that...lol...i had a mustang convertable some years ago and it is pretty much the same...another member here in CT said he would help with the top replacement too....I'm hoping thing go well this week so i can get cracking...got an '03 console sitting in my beadroom that won't work with the auto so I may have to find another...well it'll work I'll just have to fudghe it a bit I think and get a set of boots custom cut for it....can't wait to have a black top on it ...white is killing me.....

Yay for more verts! Sneezy's right, GM didn't make many red/white combos, but a black top will be much easier to keep clean I can say so from experience... your call though. Great pick up for $1600, any plans for it?

Hehehehe, Im going to stay quiet
But I think you should keep the white top. But yes, it is a PITA to keep clean. I know, Im still looking for @!#$ to clean my top really nicely. But either way, great find. Im going to keep a eye on this one.
...Yeah...think I'll not get the white interior....i had one on my old mustang it was a PITA to keep clean, especially with young kids....lol...I am, however, looking into wheels and a coilover set up....I would love to ditch the rear wing and go natural but it may look ok with a different wing...i stripped the wing off my last one and it looked pretty sexy....I may go look at a '98 cav. vert this weekend for the same price( green with black top )..it's an auto too......I am seriously thinking about a 5 speed swap...I still have an '03 centerconsole that I smoothed and painted but its for a 5 speed so it'll have to wait...maybe an STR-4 seat swap or something like that..tail swap with a shaved filler panel is on the plans....evil eyes will be done, GT nose or similar.....not to mention that i will be going through the mechanicals just to be sure i get no suprises....i may do some internal motor work but not sure what to do with these...my first 2.4....exhaust upgrade is a must..so is an audio...it has power windows so i will be making a set of kick panels and an enclosure....i actually stayed within my buget for buying a car..budget is 3500..give or take a few hundred...and i stayed way below so i have some room to play..or get another vehicle......

03 swap but im biased. lol and yes for the white top. The white interior isnt as hard to keep clean as you think, westleys bleach white works well for quick cleanup. 303 aerospace protectant (spf 40) for the top and seats if you need to.
