New 086 head?
Wednesday, January 07, 2009 8:27 PM
My new 086 head "looks" nice BUT their are some cuts in between the valves....I showed it to my machine shop guy and he says it looks decent not to worry as long as their are not any welds. Now I regret getting this head from headsonly.com.

My machine shop guy told me he can get me a NEW casting head. Now im just worried since I heard some bad things out of Clear water who sells new heads on ebay. Are there some issues with the 086 heads from them?...Clear water...does that sound familier?.....

Im not saying his source would come from them but are their diff. 086 heads that can cause issues with this swap?....dam im pissed!

what issues did you have with clearwater? Did you recieve a new head from them or a used head?

I bought some chevy 4.3 heads from clearwater, they looked brand new and have been on the truck since may.

just go have it leak checked. Pressure tested.

I got my 086 head from clearwater. First of all the exhaust ports were really really small compaired to a normal 086, this was supposedly to compensate for the head cracking in stock form. Also the valve job was poorly done. I took it to my machinist and $800 later it was good to go with a new valve job, ports hogged to the max, bowl work, and gasket matched to the 2.4 gasket. My best advice.....avoid clearwater at all costs.

those are the ones i bought. The only real "problem" with mine was ups dropped one and the threaded stud on top had a few threads damaged. but they were easily repaired. all these other peoples bad deals got me worried about the quality.

well my machine shop guy said he can get me a new 086 head from a place in Florida or Alabama. He said they come without the valves and other parts....just the bare head is included. I told him to get it from Alabama instead of Florida since thats the "clearwater" florida.

He also can get me some SS valves for 10 bucks a piece from a new company dedicating parts to small 4 cylinders.

Im worried about the small exhaust valves too!
