Here are some pictures of my new toys. The msd wires are a universal set for a V8. I went with the universal wires so I can make 2 sets of wires with all custom lengths. Then probably sell one set and keep one set of wires.
Only thing im missing before I get things wired up is the coil pack bracket from the 2.2L. Then maybe the cruise control bracket to mount it to the strut tower. I havent figured that out yet. I might fab something up also.
Anyone who has the coil swap can you please post pictures of how you mounted them up. I would help out alot.
More pictures to come later.
I just fabbed up an aluminum bracket and a couple of 1/4" thick spacers and mounted mine to the front (timing chain side) of the engine. Then polished it up and bolt/nut the coils to it. Cut a hole in my IDI cover for the plug wires to come out and machined a slot for the throttle cable to run through (instead of running over the top of the IDI it runs through the underside to help hide it).

Only problem I'm dealing with is lack of space with the S/C kit and my intake. See pictures below of my engine bay.
what do you think that swap is really going to do?
Well as far as I'm aware and what research I have done and talking with my buddy LafNgas, these are the things that I hope it will do.
-Smoother idle
-Increase gas mileage slightly
-Get rid of misfire problem
-Better throddle response
-I can increase my plug gap up a little, Im running it .30 right now b/c of misfires, but I still get them the odd time, which should be .50 for the S/C kit.
-Better start-ups. People who run the S/C kit as I do myself find that after the S/C gets hot it's harder to start the car. Should start with first turn of the key.
Those are some of the things I hope doing the swap will resolve. After I get the swap done I'm taking it in for a dyno baseline. I want the misfire issue resolved before adding more mods and to be sure it's running smooth before it goes on the dyno. When talking with my dyno shop they said they can monitor all that stuff while its on the dyno with a scanner.
Regards,
why don't you try cooling the supercharger better?
With the 2.4L S/C kit you cant. With the ecotec you can.

alcohol injection.
I will be doing that once I get some issues resolved first with the MSD swap. Drop two pulley sizes and alky injection. I would be happy with 10-12PSI with alky.
Hey you could always try doing your intake like I did. It would free up a ton of room.

^^ yum
Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.
10-12 on an m45?
I'm assuming you ported and polished the s/c
also could somebody explain how alky injection works? and how much a system costs

That looks like a good idea. Ill have to take a look under the hood today to maybe do my intake like that. Did you use a rubber elbow? I cant quite see it b/c the TB cable cover is blocking the view. Can you explain?
Then that should give me a ton of room to mount the MSD to my strut tower.
I would like to see some images on how the MSD is mounted to the 2.2 bracket and the cruise control mock-up to the strut tower. The bolts that came with the modules look WAY to long and there isnt any bolts. Weird.
I actualy mounted them to my power steering with the top bolt, the one you have your intake connected to.

Bump. whats going on where u at with this. did you get it installed or what? do you notice any differance?
I havent got it installed yet. I got the coils/modules wired up to the plug on the weekend. Only thing I need to do now is fine myself a 90 bend like Wade there and move my intake. Then get the coils mounted to my strut tower. Then I get get my wires in. Then ill all be ready to go. I'm hoping to have this completed by the weekend pending the weather is decent.
Regards,
I went to the wreckers this morning trying to find a cruise control bracket that supposidly was on the strut tower. I couldnt find any of those there on any of the cavs/fires. Also when looking at all the 2200 motors on a couple of cavs the coil pack bracket seems to be on the back of the motor somewhere. I thought it was on the side of the motor. Totally impossible to get at standing in the cold.
I guess Ill have to fab something up I guess.

On the 2.2 motors, its on the back, on the 2200 motors, its on the drivers side of the engine, above the tranny.

well I'm keeping the faith that this ignition setup will fix your symptoms. I guess we're going to see! upgraded Ignition systems kick ass
