Friday, January 04, 2008 9:05 AM
how she looked when we got it into the garage

before anyone comments on the next pic i first panel bonded, then fiberglassed, then used fiberglass filler and will use body filler as the last coat. is that right?

whole interior out to get glassed

me recoating the wheel wells

sold old ugly blitz front

little body work that was needed

hard core ricer stage with the old 2.2

started to fix the ugliness that existed

on with the new front

comments welcome good or bad ive learned not to care

i cant view the pics til i get home on lunch(40 mins), but what is it you panel bonded?

the piece that goes up above the quarter glass down to the quarter panel. i want to mold that

hmmm, that may end up cracking out.

you might want to grind down all the glass you laid over it and just use some duraglass/everglass over the panel bond......the reason being the more different materials you use, the more of a chance you have of cracking. since right now you have the body metal, the plastic panel, the panel bond, fiberglass, fiberglass filler, and regular filler, you have 6 different materials with 6 different expansion rates.

but ill definately be checking out the pics when i get home.....excited to see!

edit* - also, i tried searching but couldnt find it....but i also think that those braeaks in the lines(where you're shaving) are there for body flex.....so thats one more added stress on the area if its true

id love to say it wont, but it would definately suck to go thru all the work, then get it painted and it crack out.

it would jst be something id worry about.....and why i ended up not doing it to mine

but i definately hope it works out for ya. keep us updated with progress!!

damn brophy, that things a mess, you are definently going in the right direction but have ALOT farther to go! That engine bay is hella disgusting! BTW are you supposed to ue rattle can primer if you plan to use automotive paint? I think they are different based paints and do not bond to eachother.......maybe....? With all the spray painting you do you might want to invest in a paint gun and compressor if you dont have one...then you could do work the right way. The bumper change is a huge plus. Once you get all the body work, interior work and engine bay cleaned up, all thats left is to do some MAJOR detailing, like cleaning your weather stripping, panel adjusting, headlight adjusting and overall just a nice wash, inside and out. good luck!

plans are rims, drop, 2 tone paint, fully fiberglassed interior, big brakes, and hopefully an engine swap but that might have to wait for awhile

Not trying to be a ass or anything because I respect those who actually do their own body work(at least do it right anyway) but if your going to be redoing it all..assuming your going to sand most if not all the old primer/paint off, why not take out the headlights, corners , and tails? why risk messing them up with your sand paper..I understand if you want to say, it doesn't matter you may replace them.. well then remove them anyway, don't need to scratch em up or them be in the way and when you finish there already removed for the new ones to be installed..without them you can sand a little more thorough around their areas and when you repaint will have all that @!#$ behind them primered and painted as well.. same with windows, tape em up... no point in risking the damage.. you know if you have friends or whoever over checking it out everyone is tempted to right in the dust and its always the windows.. only takes one finger on a idiot to scratch your windows.. May not be a bad idea to cover your wheels as well from scratching them with sandpaper, or sand blocks or d/as that may get dropped and hit them on the way down.. Just some advice..

otherwise glad to see it getting redone and looks like a pretty decent kit combo, better then blitz.

i guess i dont get what your saying. when I primed it last year at about this time it was all masked off. all the windows were everything was done right. im going to school to be an autobody tech and we did it all at school. the only body work im doing right now is i welded up a couple holes and fixed a couple dents in the quarter. if your talking about the primer crap all on the windows and jams and stuff thats all dried primer dust from wet sanding.
thanks for the compliment tho

When I get a free weekend I'd be happy to come help ya out! I havnt had a chance to work on cars in over a year!
