Well you can't fix what isn't broken.... so if not broken mod it
Typically I drag ass on everything, I work on cars for a living so I'm usually not motivated to work on my own but I decieded screw it I want to get some of the boxes out of my house LOL so I went to work.
the projects... removing A/C condenser, lines, compressor, basically everythign A/C related under the hood. remove alturnator and install the new pulley, figure out a belt to run with having nothign but the the crank pulley and alturnator, remove the washer fluid pump and resovior and install the griffin radiator. I was thinking it would be a decent sized project... not so much LOL. It took less then half an hour to hace the radiator out of the car... I literally spent as much time removing it as I did trying to get the god damn connector off the colling fan LOL. Its insanely simple to do a radiator on a J-body, removing the A/c lines and compressor was another 15 minuets or so and the alturnnator pulley was as simple as unbolting the pier wire, unpluging the harness from it, and 3 bolts to take it out and about 1/2 a secon with an impact to swap pulleys haha.
Anyways on with pics.... I didn't take any pics till I was done for the night, the temp dropped like mad in the matter of minuets and there was a severe weather alert for temps below freezing with high winds so that cut my progress short not long after dark which sucks casue I was flying through the project and I had to stop while still motivated.
ok pics for real now...
Taken apart
no alturnator of A/C compressor
washer fluid resovior removed
no a/c
it just fell out
stock radiator with the fan still attached... btw this is the first time I've seen an eco radiator out of the car... absolutely pathetic, the core is like maybe half an inch thick.
the alturnator pulley with the A4 hard coating from the GP installed next to stock pulley... I have this little scale laying around from way back in the day... I'm not sure how acurate it is but stock vs. he new pulley... the stock pulley was right around 5 times the weight of the new one... which stil isn't a whole lot of weight put considerin the size of it vs. the crank pulley, I wouldn't be suprised if the alturnator in my car hit 15K rpm, at hat speeds that huge percent of weight lose starts to count hahah
I don't even know why I took this pic... random @!#$
and heres some advise for people.... the little hose that goes here..
pull it off and stick on there when draining the radiator, the drain goes right into the crossmember up front adn makes a big @!#$in mess, take the little piece of hose off and you can aim it right around the cross member straigt into a drain bucket without spilling a drop. saves you from a big mess
and a turbo in a bucket for good measure LOL
Check back tomorrow for more pics/updates
-and for you tree huggers.... I took the car to work and sucked down the A/C system, I didn't just pull the line and vent the refrigerent in the atmosphere to float up and eat the o-zone
when i replaced the heater core in my dodge I let the A/C vent into the atmosphere, now I have my own little personal hole in the o-zone layer.....
nice progress. not gonna head up tomorrow if thats all you have to do. like i said on the phone, we got a heated shop which is open to you whenever you need it. well that is if my car isnt in there for my project
But really, there is always shelter if its not the heated part, ill get the jet heater from work and use that. its inside and somewhat warm. if you need the room. oh and its got plenty of air power too
Did you forget how to spell after inhaling the refrigerant from the A/C?
lol, looks like fun!
I would have to learn to sell correctly to begin with in order to forgot how LOL
I work on cars for living.... I don't need to spell
how nice....I dumped it into the ozone
ozon3 ftl. vent that ish, by the time its all gone we'll all be long dead!
id really like to hear more about how your going to route the serp. belt now, u said u dont want the tensionor correct?? or did i miss something?? im assuming i could do the same with a 2.4, just might need a different belt size.
by the time this car is completed its going to be ONE hell of an autoX beast. great job dood.

yeah you missed somethign LOL.
crank and alturnator are the only things on the belt, the tension is still needed to tension the belt of nothign works lol
lookin good. let us know how the griffin radiator is even tho racin season doesn't start til next spring. you should hide your ecu. will help w/ the center of gravity. HA.

man I went back to bed for like an hour and the temp warmed up 20+ already lol. I'm gonna get dressed, take some measurements for a belt and run out for some breakfast and back to work
lol damn, i was hoping you were gonna fab up some sort of alternator adjustment or something! let us know how you can keep it from squealin man!
Well I went out and got a belt, brake clean and coolant, but having to poop like mad a few times is seting back progress LOL
Get it done! Get more pictures! NOW!
Well I got coolant some brake clean and a belt... I searched till I found a part number on here which was Napa 25-050335 but just in case since i have a spare motor on a stand I measured and found I wanted a 35" belt. So I went to Napa and got the 25-050335 belt only to find it was just a little to small, I could not get it on for life of me. So I took it back and asked them to find a 35".... they found me a 35 1/4" belt part number Napa 25-050345 and that worked perfect with the A/C removal plus it only cost like $10.
Alright todays pics....
Pics of stock compared to Griffin
Difference in the size of the core.
Here is the only real problem I have with the radiator... the stock radiator has the petcock (yes thats what its called) drain... the Griffin has a threaded hole...... AND NOTHING TO PLUG IT. Its all installed everythign is finished but I can't put an coolant in it and drive it till I get a hole of Griffin to get what I need for a drain plug.
heres stock radiator with condensor (silver cav)
heres the griffin installed (tan cav)
Measuring the stock core
measuring the Griffin Core
All done (except for coolant)
Thats a nice looking rad right there. They sell em for regular 2.2's?
no idea but I would think so.. this a 5-speed eco one, check the GO currently going for whats ordered.
Hey, you forgot that turbo in the bucket you douche
.
Put that on the car too.
selling the AC stuff? how much for just the lines?
looks good man. that thing is never gonna warm up with the condenser out of the way and that big ass radiator.
Desert Tuners
“When you come across a big kettle of crazy, it’s best not to stir it.”
at this point I no intention of selling off the stock parts
and not that it has anythgin to do with anything but I just saw this... the GTC sits with exactly 32,000 miles on the dot right now
its getting old
