I am not one to post pics very much, but I decided to post a few pics of my friend Dan Oakes new paint on his 2000 Z.
I wanted to post this because Dan has not had an easy time with his J-body ownership.
He bought the car new in 2000 and is one of the more original members of JBOM. It was a white Z24, auto trans. The first thing he did to it was to start building a respectable Audio system and wheels and tires. Then, during a trip to a show the club was participating in, the hood flew open smashing the hood, windshield, roof, and fenders.
While at the bodyshop, he decided he wanted to do a body kit, too. For whatever reason, the shop took over 2 years to finish the car. During which, his stereo system was stolen completely.
The car had its color changed while at the body shop, to blue. The shop did do a really good job with the color change though and its unlikely you could ever tell it was white.
A week after he got it back from the shop, the engine blew. He's been driving it regularly since then.
His car took another unfortunate turn when he decided to put vinyl graphics on it, but that was do to his own bad taste.
The car finally made it to the bash and here it is as it was last year...
Last December, a shop named Skinny Kids Customs offered to sponsor one car in JBOM for custom painted graphics. Dans car was chosen for them. SKK painted the graphics and shaved the door handles. Rather than talk more, here it is...

Oh and i only posted also because he doesn't have internet access, himself.

looks pretty good! i saw his car in the j-body magazine.. heck of a turnaround
it stinks he has to break all that custom work with altezza's....
on a side note, is that like a "criss cross" pattern on the front or is it a reflection?

i like it man its crazy! a dark tail light like black or carbon fiber might look better i think though. deffinatly nice though i like the front bumper a lot
im usually like eww at stuff like that but it looks kinda nice.....flows pretty well...just i hate altezzas.
Not unintentionally accelerating since 2009!!!!
Not bad... It's a little to busy for me... but no complaints otherwise... that would look sooo sweet with some toyo tails that are color matched!
not bad. its not to drastic like other paint jobs like that but i still think it would look better of the bottom half was maroon and the top was blue w/ the strikes in it. also that little bit of blue on the front bumper im not feeling. overall its a great paint job but to each their own
IMO thats an uglier car than most of the stock j's i see with primer everywhere and parts missing. just no taste in that. wayyy too many colors there. nothing flows.
Looks hot! I love the custom work for sure! Props to him and his new looking ride!
Maybe cuz I work with advertisement design all day but I think it looks horrible, very bad use of shapes and colors. Hey, if he likes it, thats all that matters!!!
Say what you must haters, I personally think it's hot. I'm not a huge fan of wild paintjobs but quality work like that I think is something worth complementing.
It's art. That's what we're working with right? Any empty canvas and we paint it into what we want.
To insult someone's artwork (or artwork they had painted for them) is like kicking that person in the nuts.
Mark A, you could of said "Hey, I don't like it" instead of going so far out of your way to insult Dan. Grow up.

I am BEYOND glad he got rid of the vinyl, I absolutely hated it and always wanted to tell him that, though didn't have the heart to
. Looks like his wife? got a TC too, eh?
The new paint work looks flawless, SKK seems to have proved themself by this offer also.
And, sorry Mark, but I think that was uncalled for, Dan has worked really hard on his car, and comments like that are complete bull@!#$, you have no idea, you're a newbie compared to him amongst others in this scene. The paint style shown is more so common on minitrucks, not sport compacts, though SKK pulled it off nicely.
Its different, but hey different is good. Looks good, I would have went with different colors but overall I think it has made progress and is definitely a head turner. Nice job.

As art and a completely custom and free paintjob and graphics... I can appreciate the work and value of the job. As for the 'art' itself... I don't like it. Just my opinion.
I like it, not matter how crazy it looks. The only thing I would change is the tail lights.

Looks hot, I like it alot very custom and different. They do great work as I can see from your car, now no one will have a car like yours. Uniqueness is the only way to go.
Weird, has not repitition, kinda messy, very nice detail, just not my style.
