Cavalier 3 gauge bezel feeler

I have these two bezels laying around.

00+

95 - 99

They need alot of work in order for them to be "finished" and frankly they are not constructed well enough to be a viable product. But they will work just fine as prototype parts.

So here is the question: Would there be any interest in a full replacement plastic(no fiberglass at all) 3 gauge bezel?

I would make molds of these two(after they are finished) and would be able to produce plastic bezels quicker and easier than someone fiber-glassing a stock bezel.

The benefits would be:
No core would be needed, so you can keep your stocker.
No worries about heat/stress cracks
Easier to get
Possibly cheaper

The texture would also be removed so they will be smooth. The cig lighter would be shaved. Depending on interest i might make molds with the cig lighter.

Im not trying to knock those of you who fiberglass these for people. Im just thinking about creating another option for cavalier owners.

My own personal bezel needs to be refinished and i may make a mold of it too. I know not alot of cav owners are running air-ride and even fewer are running the Autopilot system. If i do then this "style" could also be available and the cig lighter will be shaved. To the best of my knowledge it will only fit the Autopilot and would only be for 00-05 cavaliers.

The earliest that they could be available would be mid-summer.

So what is your opinion? Yay, Nay? I know a few of you would like to see a final product before deciding, but im just looking to see if there is interest in the concept. If there is enough interest in the concept then i'll be open to input as to the final designs.

Last thing, if these are made, would anyone be interested in a "kit" to seal and block the center vents so you dont lose airflow to your side vents?

Oh and those of you with a sunfire dash.

I would say yes, to making it with the kit to seal off the vents so you dont lose air flow,
as for the gauges themselves, I can't really tell by the pictures, but they look like they are pointing straight forward,
I say go with them angled towards the driver more, and if I actually owned a Cavy I would definitely pick one up

i wouldnt mind one. would they be basicallly a cover for the stock one or??? a full replacement. if a fill replacement how can you garuntee the mounting points are the same??

Re: Cavalier gauge bezel feeler

As said in the first post they will be full replacements. Take your stocker off and install the new one.

I can guarantee that the mounting points will be the same do to the molding process. They would be made from silicone molds which transfers the tiniest details.

Price will depend on the cost of materials and the number of people wanting one.

Both bezel have the gauges tilted towards the driver, but the pics dont show it well.

I wouldn't mind one with the cig lighter removed for an 03sport. Everything else kept factory, including the finish on it.

(Cough, cough) I also wouldn't mind a piece that moves the cup holders to the passenger side of the shifter, we all now big drinks hit the bezel and for me resets all the audio settings on the factory radio(Cough, cough).

Sorry to say, but those are not going to happen anytime soon. I dont have a junk J-body to make and fit the prototype center consol in and im not going to start 10 different molds at once. Not to mention finding a non-damaged radio bezel in the junkers is next to impossable, so i dont really have anything else to use to make prototypes. During the summer things may change, but as of now it's a no-go.

Wayne - If you want to cover the costs of the whole mold yourself it would be possible, but what the cost will be, i dont know yet.

I'm contemplating building myself a 3 gauge pod just like this for my 04....But if your going to make molds I can hold off for a bit....and if it's around 120 or lowwer shipped I'm in.

Well Tinkles you have a good bite here, I would assume you are trying to estimate pricing once you get all factor in your supplies, time etc?

Yes. I dont want to say "$100 for whatnot and have it cost me $105 to make them".

I know my 03 has another power point/plug/cig lighter/whatever on the passenger side of my center console and i use that to charge my phone. You can barely see it at the bottom of the pic of my bezel.

I'll get started on finishing up the prototypes. Once i finish the prototypes i'll look into the costs of the molding supplies.

Having the cig lighter as an option will more than likely raise the price do to having to make twice as many molds.

what are the dimensions of the autopilot, i and very interested in the 3 gauge setup aswell. finding a unbroken 00+ bezel is ridiculous in yards (hell finding a 00+ for that matter)
