Heym i am looking at getting an aftermarket wheel and hub adapter for my 98 sunfire, and i want my horn to work once this aftermarket wheel is installed for my saftey and so i t will pass inspection every year, i was told by my mechanic i would probally need a horn adapter unless the wheel or hub comes with one...
Do i need a horn adapter to make my horn work with a aftermarket wheel? and if so, do wheels come with this horn adapter, and if not where can i buy one and do i ask for one to fit a sunfire, or are they universal like the wheels?
I know i need the 6 bolt momo hub which is sold sepertaly, i know that much, lol
Anyhelp from those that have aftermarket wheels and working horns would be appreciated
Thanks very much

so what do you plan to do about the air bag? dont know about you but i woud like the air bag for safety for when i hit something not the sound of the horn right before i hit something.

I think that should be personal prefference. I've been in wrecks with and without airbags, and I'd much rather have a steering wheel without the airbag.

thats probably not something I would brag about
depending on the state, the air bags may be required to be in tact.
yeah, i'm pretty sure, if you have a safety inspection in your state, you have to have airbags in a vehicle that was so factory equipped.
JBO Stickers! Get yours today!
doesnt matter what state your in, its required by law to have a driver side air bag
In my area; you dont need an air bag for a mvi, you just can not have a light on your dash; and there are tons of j;s out there with out air bags with aftermaket wheels; JUST looking to see where i can get a horn adapter not looking for a speech about airbags...,lol

I don't think you understand what I meant. The car I mentioned that didn't have an airbag did not come with one from factory (was a 92 corolla) so nothing illegal about that. I came out of that crash with only a few scratches which I got when getting out of the vehicle. Second crash was my last Sunfire and the airbag was the cause of my only injury. My arm was burned pretty bad from the airbag. I think it should be the driver's choice whether or not the driver's airbag is in tact. Passenger airbags are a different story. It's just my personal opinion though.
Technically, it is "illegal" to tamper with a vehicle's safety systems.
IE removing an air bag from a car that came equipped from the factory would be illegal and depending on your inspector may or may not fail you.
So in theory if you put a race wheel in a car that did not come with an air bag from the factory you would be fine basically with any car pre-1995 or when ever air bags became a standard option in vehicles.
Just fair warning if you are told to remove the wheel after inspections, best to check with your local if it is ok before moving forward here.
^^^ thanks man, iam 99% sure i am good on the wheel, i alreday asked my mechanic who is a licensed inspector.

hehehe I dont got nooo airbags and no problems yet!!
wait did they have airbags in 86? hehe
do the inspection with the airbag/factory steering wheel.
go home take airbag compliant steering wheel off, and put the aftermarket one on.
wow....rocket science.
allot of wheels come with the horn button. just look at the wheel you want to buy and double check first.
as far as the airbags if the car came with it, it is illegal for you to remove it. it may pass inspection and all but if you were injured in an accident and insurance saw that you had no airbag you will likely be paying all your medical bills out of your own pocket and most likely get your insurance dropped.

Okay so if the wheel comes with a horn button, your horn can be hooked up; you dont need some sort of horn adapter, that's what the button is for?
I know the wheel i am looking at getting, the specs say it comes with horn button; so i should be good....

how many times can the same question be asked with the same resulting answers?
I ordered my sparco hub from Raven autosports in halifax...it was cheaper than the momo (came to 120 with tax)...from my understanding all you need is a spacer...my NRG wheel has the horn with it
^^^ oh right on, i am looking at getting a nrg wheel from jason, and the momo hub adapter, where did you get your wheel at?

I got my wheel from driftnami in halifax...he said the momo hub is 6-8 weeks on back order and I didn't want to wait that long...and the momo one was for around 140...a little more than the sparco one. A buddy of mine knew about raven autosport so I decided to try them out...James was a great person to deal with...not sure what he can get for wheels, but I imagine he can get whatever...I got my wheel before I knew about Raven, probably would have gotten both from him if I had knew.
Sorry to bust your bubble... the momo hub adapter is only like $72-75 bucks... plus free shipping.
click me
You paid WAAAAY more then you needed to.

If your from canada its that much...its $119 here...I could have gotten it off ebay for $73 and then pay 15 for shipping and 40 for customs/duty fees...so if I did the math right it would have cost me $128 to get it from the states...and it was $119 here...I got the sparco one for $106 shipped to my house...

its pretty much just attaching the ground and the power. nothing to it.

the only way to get around that airbag thing is if your airbag was aready deployed in which case you are not required to replace it and easiest way to do it is to deploy it yourself which once again is Illeagle since it is tampering with sefty equipment blah blah blah, there are 4 spots on your front and rear bumper 2 of which need to be hit at the same time to set off your airbag, i will not go into details but just say it doesn't not require a lot of force.

1) remove airbag
2) secure airbag to something sturdy (and do not skip on this part)
3) extend wiring a ways
4) apply power and ground... airbag should pop.
