First of all, I want to mention I'm a newbie to this forum, but not to cars. I find myself drawn to all the very cool things people have done to their j-bodies with after market gear, custom work and such. I own a 96 and 98 2 door sunfires and love them both. Here are my questions bellow.
1. I'm interested in having a blue glow on my front passenger and drivers side floor. I have not yet decided what methode I will use (neon, cathode, led). Any suggestions as to what is brightest and pictures of existing set ups would be appreciated and where it was purchased from. I also want this to turn on first click of the knob that turns the cluster lights, hvac lights and low beams so that I do not have an extra switch kicking around. Is this possible to achieve with a relay and taking appart the steering column?
2. I'm also interested in replacing my hvac and cluster display bulbs with blue LED's. I've looked forever and found quite a lot of post about how to change these and feel quite comfterbal doing so, but didn't find any post telling you how many of these bulbs you need and would like to only take the dash appart once if I can help it. From what I can understand, you need the #74 for the HVAC and the #194 for the cluster. How many of these will I need of each? And again picutres and where purchased would be greatly appreciated.
hvac=2, cluster=4

Thanks for the quick response.
2001 cavalier, If I want to change the bulbs in my HVAC what bulb do I get and how do I wire it in cause they arent just a pull out kind of bulb they are soldered in
2001? They shouldn't be soldered in? The 2000+ had the pull lights, two of them.

Got a photo of behind the HVAC so I can see where ur talkin bout pullin 'em out? Cuz I have an 01 as well and don't see how they can pull out....
^^ yeah I have tried to change mine and you cant pull them out without breaking the bulb and it looks like they are soldered right into the wires going in

If you want to change your directionals and/or high beams, there are three more. If you have a stock gauge face, it won't really make much of a difference, other than making the blinkers a little crisper, but if you have an aftermarket face without the colored film behind those, you can change the colors on those as well.
the cluster bulbs are size 194
personally i just would buy a differnet guage face and Hvac Face, saves the hassle of bulbs and you can change the ugly stock black background
the HVAC bulbs seem to be soldered in, but they arent. they are just fitted in there really tight. best way to get the bulb out is to break the bulb and pull it out by the filliment. this can be done with a pair of needle nose pliers.

yeah or if you don't want to mess with that, go to advanced and get some 1/2" gauge sockets, and the new bulbs can just be pushed in there.

no.,.this is not the best way....best way ( which i have said before) is to place a small rubber band around the small bulb,pinch it with one hand to hold part of the band around the bulb then GENTLY squeeze with needle nose plyers and pull out...make sure you PULL more than you squeeze or it will shatter..if you do it right itll pop right out..i was able to do this and get BOTH my hvac bulbs out without busting them
I installed 3 cold cathodes(ozmium.com) and a set of glow pedals(ebay.com) under the dash area... I've purchased leds for the dash and hvac, but they are not done yet... I will update w. more pics when completed.
