I think color matched to the exterior would look pretty good as long as you don't overdo it and paint too many pieces. Also, I think it will look better if you sand the pieces smooth before painting them. It will make it look like the pieces are fiberglassed.

Like already said, sand the pieces completely smooth, and do several coats of paint with a UV/Moisture resistant clear coat. Project took me two days total, might be overkill but the end result is sexy

I did several coats of a metallic silver for the HVAC rings, @!#$ column trim and interior door handle inserts and they have been good for almost 4 years now. Those who know the car didn't come like that love how it looks. Those who have gotten into the car for the first time thought it came stock because they were so nicely done. I think those are really the only places to attack if you want to stay minimal and add some accent to the interior.

black and please dont just paint whatever piece you can pull off. (ie radio bezel, center vent, little corner vents, vent trim, etc..) it looks really tacky when people do that.

like i said as long as you dont just take off whatever small pieces that come off and paint them a different color its fine. it looks very tacky when people do that

Why don't you post some pics of how it looks currently, then we can make suggestions from there.

You could always just replace the painted pieces with graphite pieces from the junkyard. That's what I did with my GT when I decided to ditch the painted pieces. It was cheap and with an older Sunfire like yours it should be really easy to find the pieces you need. I honestly prefer a stock graphite interior to any painted color but that's just me.

The pic above is what the interior looked like
The pic below is now
Note i will be changing/paintting the pedals black, and the gauge pod sometime soon which will complete the cleaned up look; i think it looks alot better now then the white, not so tacky and rice...... lol

Thanks for your input

It looks much better Terry! I think the white would have looked good with a white car, but it definitely looked kind of goofy with your color. I'd love to see some more pictures of your Sedan!

Also, I like your wheels! They look like the wheels on the '09 Vibe GT.

I used that same black textured paint for my bezel.
It looks alot better black.
And like they said, if you could use the same color as the outside to highlight a few trim pieces, it'd look really nice.

I think it looks better the way you have it (after you finish painting the rest of the white pieces black), but if you really want to do some color matching, do the top half of the center console, and the radio bezel (so they would blend together), and *maybe* the door accent around the handle, but without anything else on the door to tie them in, that can look too random.

I'm preparing to do an internal accent painting project I don't think (or at least haven't seen) anyone else on the J do before: using "faux finish" techniques on some interior panels to make them look like they're made out of wood. i.e., go 'luxury car."

The parts of choice are the two interior trim panels on each side of the rear seat. I'm going to make the inside section of each (the depressed section housing the rear speakers in the convertible model) match the burl wood pattern on my aftermarket dash trim kit.

I've already done some practice painting on carboard boxes, and using latex craft paint (topped with clear coat) have produced some that are dead ringers for the below. Fortunately, a maple burl pattern is one of the easier faux patterns to paint because it's a closed grained wood with random and somewhat blotchy marking (open grained woods like oak with distinct knots are much tougher):

The next step is to do a "full test run" on a scrap panel I have, to make sure the finish can be applied properly and made to look "stock" smooth and glossy.

If that's successful, I'll take photos during the final project and post a walk-through here.

if your going to stick with the black paint everything black cause perosonally to me it doesnt look very good with half black half grey. if you want to paint some pieces to match the car i'd do the entire bottom half of the dash and maybe the top half of your center console.

do your guage bezel and pass vent ( the actual holster for the vent) color matched to the body with the full black interior. i changed mine from tan to a full black interior with a white bezel and vent no lil vents or center vent. the white looked hott but like sumone said it just doesnt fit with a teal car. great work though.

Its really up to you and your tastes. I painted the main peice that goes over the cluster and radio and side panels for the dash. Inside of the cluster, the black trim peice was painted. It makes that whole section look like it goes together. The vents and all over small peices were left original color. Red goes pretty well with black.

The other stuff that is painted that i regret are the glove box cover, side panels for the dash, and the sides and shifter area of the middle console.

I also recarpeted the back that covers the speakers to match the car and new interior, and plan on recarpeting the peices of carpet inside of the door in ther cubby whole slots.

So with the new carpeting, the painted dash i am happy. I just wish i never painted the center console stuff... that made it look tacky.
