Hello all,
After my dash took a massive beating form the sun over the years, i decided to fix it. Well, i took the whole thing apart, but after many nuts, bolts and screws kept commin' i decided to do something different. So call me lazy, but i though i would be easier t cover the back piece of the dashboard with a leather like vinyl for that European racing look.
Here are the first pictures, i will keep posting them after 2 weeks because of some time restrains with school, work and all...
Things you need:
- Piece of vinyl form a local fabric supplier cost me $10, the meas. 60 x 25in.
- Plastic cement or adhesive from the hardware store....$3.00
- Spray adhesive (for the vinyl) ......... $4.95
- Rubber lining (these are the rubber stuff you put in cabinets) ....$4.95
1. I removed the dash and as you can see the piece is broken in many areas....FYI, this plastic was literally TOASTED, so it snapped like a cracker.

2. The gluing process started. Don't worry about the esthetics, it will be covered by the vinyl.

I will keep you posted.

All i can say www.coverlaymfg.com
These guys deserve our business, they made a great dash cover for us, and it fits GREAT and looks Factory.
Sweet! all this work for nothing. lol
Anyways is too expensive for a piece of plastic. I rather do something outside the box, besides, all the supplies i have bought cost me 'bout 23 bucks...so....
But thanks for the link.
later.

It is one nice piece of plastic, it fits perfect;y over the factory top, it stays put and comes in lots of colors. if what you ar doing comes out nice, good for you, if not, spend the money.
hey guys, i got a good idea, lets just all cover up the problem of the dash breaking into thousands of peices instead of fixing the problem. lets just glue some @!#$ over it to hide the fact that the dash is cracking into about one million peices....
^^^^^^^if you are trying to say buy the coverlay.....it is the same thing.....you are just covering up the fact that it is broken. Either way, why wouldnt you? You like staring at a @!#$ty cracked dash? If it works for him for 23 bucks then why not......

After I'm done with the piece, you would never guess it that it USED TO BE broken. The point is not to just cover it, but to fix it, and protect it from future damages form the sun. Besides, its good to experiment with these kind of things ya know? instead of just buying and buying and getting it installed.
cheers.

I did the same thing a few months ago, except I took the dash the whole way out. Used Gorilla Glue to fix the cracks and then sanded the whole thing down. Good luck trying to get the vinyl to stick without taking the whole dash off. It was a pain in the nuts.
