I'm needing everybody to make a list of what could go wrong if my Cluster and HVAC lights stop working?? List everything that could affect it please.

That's really it... as long as the cluster is plugged in, it will function as normal, just with no backlights.
ive heard of some guys putting in a new headunit and losing their lights- sometimes its just the light switch. hell, did you check the rheostat on your light control?? it may be turned down. ( dont ask how long it took me to find that one myself)
I put a new HU in and my cluster did stop working for 5 min, along with my lights. *shrug* works perfect now.
cluster and hvac lights -> fuse or short in wiring.
----------------------------
lights not working...
bulb is out
fuse is blown (mostly the fuse).
key isn't in the ignition?
did you do any wiring lately? maybe something happened then?

Yes it will ... the car will run fine without the cluster pluged in .. I have run mine and three other cavys without a cluster..
Z24HO if you don't have lights on the dash then like big papa said check all of your fuses.
Well here is what I did before I lost my cluster & hvac lights. I was reinstalling my HU, I had wires going the exact same way that I had before I took it out. It is the same HU I had in before, the only thing I did diffirent is I used connectors with heat shrink to connect the wires. I am using an aftermarket wireing harness. This is what happened, I installed the stereo it is working perfect. After I turned the car on and turned my lights on the lights were really dimm as if I had the switch turned down. I checked and it was turned all the way up. Then all of a sudden the lights just cut out. I checked ALL of my fues they are ALL fine. So then I got a new switch thinking the switch went out. That did nothing to help what so ever. Any other ideas as to what to check for?

try smacking the bottom of the dash below the dimmer control. I had the same problem with my cluster lights after I installed my head unit and I think the plug just came loose. I just got mad and started hit my dash every which way I could and once I hit that spot they came back on.
Is it true that there is a gray wire behind the HU that gives power to the HVAC and Cluster lights?
