i want to kno how to instal a short shifter in my 02 cav but i dont want to tackle it with no idea so if any one feels the need to help post wat u kno
Kardain, you beat me to the link. I also read if you live in his area WildWeasel will do the installation for a small fee depending upon the size of the job. At least that what his site said a while back.
Gotta keep on livin', L-I-V-I-N
I just used an air powered cut off tool and cut off about 2 inches and then used a threading tool to put some threads on the end and screwed down the stock shift knob.
Total cost =$0.00

I may be wrong on this one, since I have always been a fan of ratchets myself, but I thought that a short shifter actually had to do with the linkage throw for the lingage under the car, more than how tall it sat up in the car

you are correct. a short shifter has a purpose other than looks. thats what its called a "short throw" shifter. it basically shortens the length you have to push/pull to get into each gear allowing for quicker shifting.
the only shortening of a shifter that has no performance enhancement would be on an auto tranny, since we all know how rediculously long the auto shifters are, lol
shorten the shifter does nothing like eazy said. it does not shorten the throw at all. its just more comfortable for the rest.
you may of spent zero dollars but all you gained was more comfort for your wrist
